Fake Royal Card Room Chip? (2 Viewers)

I bought a set of royal card room chips. After looking at the set and comparing them to the sample set I got, I noticed the stickers are placed differently on the chips. On all of the sample set chips I got, the label does not fully cover the center of the chip, leaving white/metallic edges on either side of the label. The labels on the set I have, fully covers the center of the each chip. Are these samples fake? Or did someone change the stickers? Or are they an older version of the chip? Just curious as I noticed these as I was washing them tonight. In the first picture below, the chip on the right is from the sample set, while the chip on the left is from the set I bought. Thanks!

Are you able to remove the label on the one that doesn't fully cover the recess?

Apache's Royal chips should have the base color behind the label:

I don't think I've ever seen fake Royals but I wouldn't be surprised if they're out there.

I have heard of sellers sending seconds/slightly defective chips out for samples, which has always struck me as kind of odd since it’s a representation of the product.

Honestly the one on the left look aesthetically better, are the feel/sound similar?

They feel and sound the same as far as I can tell. I was cleaning my chips and decided to clean one of the samples and the water ran off of it a lot easier than any on the set I have. I thought that maybe the one was oiled so that’s why the water ran off, b ur then I noticed they looked slightly different. After looking at other people’s sets of these, I know my set is real. I’m just curious if the sample set I got is fake. I bought it from someone on eBay so I would rather warn people so they don’t make a mistake with other chips etc

That’s the upper laminate layer with the white paper(?) backing still stuck to the chip. You can see the yellow of the base show through the paper.

I would think the labels on the Royals would be vinyl and would not separate like that but I’m not sure.

These are the labels from the sample set, all of the sample set chips have that little bit of white showing on the sides. The set of royals, the label covers the whole center part of the chip

They feel the same as far as I can tell

What it looks like to me is that the top surface of the label on the right has shrunk (maybe from excess heat?), as you can still see the adhesive underlay as a full circle, while the top section is more oval shaped. Either that, or the label itself was defective from the start.

I have 1700 Royal chips, including a few hundred with after-market labels (mostly from Apache or ABC, I can't remember). None of them have this issue.
The chips themselves are probably real. The labels may or may not be originals.

Possibly Apache received some partially defective chips (aka seconds), and used them as sample sets?

Due to the cost of the chips I highly doubt counterfeits. It’s more like different runs

@btbmason may be right, the samples may just be not-great quality but real Royals. I understand why companies might do that for samples, but almost seems counterintuitive to show a worse product as "advertising" to get someone to buy them...

Looks like maybe the top laminate layer shrunk or was smaller than the bottom adhesive layer.
