Cash Game Difference in chipset for more tables vs future proofing stakes? (2 Viewers)

I have run 0 games so far, but I have this unfounded optimism that I can get one going with my old group. We'll probably start off at .25/.50 games $50 max buy-in. I can see us dabbling in $1/$1 $100 max after a few games, depending on the crowd. I've gathered up a decent sized chipset, but I'd like to fill out a birdcage.

I'm looking for any recommendations on how to tweak this lineup to either:
a) make it better overall (too much/few of certain denom)
b) future proof it for 2 tables @ the same stakes
c) future proof it for higher stakes


Current breakdown:
140 x $0.25 = $35
200 x $1 = $200
300 x $5 = $1,500
180 x $25 = $4,500
40 x $100 = $4,000
20 x $500 = $10,000
---------------
880 = $20,235

So, I have 120 chips of space. What would you change/add/remove? When you started your cash game, did you encounter more player or higher stakes first as the first change? Thanks

With 120 more chips, the most sound choice would be another rack of 5s and a barrel of 25s.
Most probably you can't spread two tables with just these 1000 chips.
But, why be in a hurry?
Play and see.

For two tables, I'd want a rack of quarters for each table, and maybe more ones.

You're a long way off from needing those $500's. If you get to two full tables at .25/.50, and it gets really splashy--let's say avg. buy-in/player is $500 at the end of the night--you'd only need a total bank of $10,000.

I would add more $5s first (another rack) then more $1s. The $500s are unnecessary at those stakes. Your 1s and 5s will be your workhorse chips. Maybe a few more fracs if running 2 full tables

For what you are playing now the set is fine. As mentioned more $5 is all I would say to add if you want to fill it out to 1000 chips.

For adding a second table:
60 more 25c
100 more $1’s
400 more $5’s

I’m no expert, but your bank is plenty big.. I’d at least complete a 2nd rack of quarters, especially if 2 tables is a possibility. Otherwise, $5’s will most likely reign supreme in the games you describe.

bank is big but definitely the $500s are a little redundant.

Hypothetically If spread across 2 tables, you would never really get them in to play and as the chip count is now you'd be making change every minute.
Even with $14k maybe 16 players, average stack of $825. I dont think you'd ever want to put a $500 on the table.

It's a mixed up set. Not intentionally, just happened to come out that way for now. Once I call it done I'll post something somewhere.

That leaves 800 for the blind and workhorse chips. I think 200/300/300 of .25/1/5 is the ticket for the stakes you are discussing. Then 160/40 of 25/100.

Most games play just fine with 3 denoms, and bring in a 4th for extra buy-ins late. For our 5¢/10¢ NL game, we use a rack of 5¢, 2 racks of 25¢, and a rack of $1 chips, and may break out a few $5’s if it gets wild.

A .25/.50 game should only need $100’s for late rebuys if the game goes crazy.

$500’s would be used some for 5/10 for sure. (I suppose—I’ve never played anything close to those stakes.)

$500 chips shouldn’t see play in anything less than a $2/5 game. and even then it should be pretty late in the game when you have run out of other chips or to color up a very big stack.

My game plays pretty deep for a $1/2 game and I usually only get a few barrels of $100’s in play. But I also use A LOT of $5’s and then at least a rack or 2 of $25’s before we need the $100’s.

I've said this before but will repeat it...I don't understand the rationale for limiting chips to a specific amount or storage option, like 500 chips, or 1000 chips in a birdcage. What that does is limit you to compromise your quantities, especially if you are thinking of increasing blinds in the future. Instead, just get what you think you need now and store the extra in a cheap chip case. Figure out how many chips you really want, and if it turns out to be 1200 or 1300, just put the 1000 you think you will need now in the birdcage and store the rest. As your game evolves you can replace the lower value chips with the higher ones.

"Replace 25 $XX chips with 25 $YY chips." No, just get them both.

I mean broadly Sal you are right. You can get as many chips as you want and just know you will be selecting whatever portion fits the travel case when necessary. Some people do like to have sets considering portable quantities when deciding what to buy, but it doesn't have to be a hard and fast rule.

In this case, wadda directly asked what we would remove to fill what he percieves is the space limit.

That doesn't mean I expect him to trash the chips that I think are surplus. Stick them in a drawer somewhere or sell if it's worthwhile.
