Cyber Attack at MGM (2 Viewers)

Looks like MGM was hit with a cyber attack. Not sure how far reaching it is beyond Vegas but if the site is down it could be across their portfolio.

Another reason why casinos should be very hesitant about moving away from chips and going to all virtual cash/gaming.

Yep lots of stuff down, VMB has a good thread and it’s beyond Vegas including Detroit, Biloxi, AC.

Some systems back up but some down since Sunday. If travelling to a MGM property probably expect you can’t pull a marker and may have issues with anything digital including room reservation, slots, table games being rated, etc.

If the hackers got in and encrypted data, paying the ransom was likely the only resolution.

I'm not sure how often a casino would run backups but even restoring from a set point of hours in the past could easily cost more than ransom.

I knew a CISO a while back and he clued me in on the secrets of being a successful CISO.

1. New job
2. 3 year plan, redo everything the old CISO did by replacing all the tools with “new and better” tools
3. Blame any breach within the first 2 years on the old CISO
4. Year 3, start looking for a new job
5. Rinse and repeat

Rule #1. Never stay in the same place for longer then you can blame a breach on the previous regime - lol.
