Copag Elite Marking Easily (1 Viewer)

Hi all

Just wondering if any of you have had issues with the Copag Elites getting peek creases on them essentially marking the cards.

I hosted a tournament and noticed afterwards every deck from every table had crease marks where players have been peeking at the cards. Something similar to what happened at the WSOP with Copag.

Is this common amongst all 100% plastic playing cards from all brands? I have considered trying Fornier Titanium’s to try and get away from this issue, just don’t know whether it would be worth it if it is highly likely the same thing will happen?

Any input is much appreciated.

The attached photo is an actual photo from the WSOP, but my Copag Elites are doing the exact same thing.

Learned from another thread, very sharp creases might be someone looking at their cards with a card protector on. I'd look around to see if someone is doing that at the table

I've seen it happen on my Elites but not as pronounced. Im thinking the 2-tone finish of the regular elites help a little.

Still I freaking HATE players who treat cards as if they were playing grand-a-hand baccarat with throwaway paper cards.

I mean, if they opened their cards vertically instead of horizontally this would be less an issue.

Year ago when Copags first became available we used them for the large tournaments we were hosting as they were half the price of Kems at the time.

We used to find a creased card ….or a couple ….after every tournament. We also found Copags faded and bled their colors on each other with heavy use. Today I own around 50 setups of cards from almost every manufacturer. I have two sets of Copags and rarely that use them. They have always were cheap compared to other cards

In my experience, with that particular kind of damage, yes. It is certainly a player problem, not a card problem. So you can try to police your players, but I've just resigned myself to using cheap, replaceable plastic cards. I like the LotFancy 2-deck setup on amazon at $10-$12 shipped. If you preorder multiple setups, the @justincarothers card releases can be even cheaper than that.

I had a whole thread on this and I look for it. I had this exact situation in my league and it was one player doing all the damage.

This kind of damage is cause by a completely unnecessary downward press on the cards.

The player doing the damage was banned from the league for others reasons. I have not had this problem since. I ended up with maybe 6 decks with damaged cards… copay, chips and games.one deck, half the cards were ruined by the time I discovered the problem. This is not a problem with Elites.

It is extremely easy to replicate! Find out which player is the problem and show him or her another way!

Their technique will ruin any brand you throw at them. Usually carrot doesn't help in these situations, so I'd start with the stick. Teach them peak at cards vertically instead of horizontally and tell them if they're cought doing it wrong, it's a $5 fine (take a fiver from their stack). If they're cought actually ruining cards, they pay for a new deck.

I have found that it also is a bit more of an issue when playing games that you peel the last card. I think of draw and stud variants. However, as mentioned above, keep an eye on your players and you’ll definitely see a pattern of how people treat your cards.

Im in the same predicament with my copags. After trying to move away from KEM, it seems the copags get this inside line crease after 2 or 3 home games. Even if its not the middle like pictured, it ends up somwhere else on the card as a crease.

Funny timing that the fresh pack of copags I just felted for the first time last weekend had a couple cards that creased in a few hours of play. I was initially worried that someone was marking cards but have never had an issue with the players at my game.

The cards also had a distinct chemical smell that caused a small concern from players that there might be a fire.

The two other packs of copags that I purchased 2 years ago have held up great though a dozen games (legit no marks or damage) so I was very surprised at the smell and poor quality of this recent pack. I promptly returned to Amazon the same weekend.

Yup. It happens. And often times it creases on the middle and makes a white mark on the outside design which players mistake for people intentionally marking cards.
