We have…..people that buy everything so that they can say they have it all.

We have people that buy everything they see that they think they can make money on and partially control that aspect of the market.

We have people that buy everything and then make a huge show out of it, to the point of making a point on how they won’t share or show others what they have.

Like…I just really like people’s customs, think they should be displayed, and have been collecting them since I first loved Mamba’s Paulson relabels.

I may be in the minority (controversial opinion), but who auctions off a custom sample of chips, when the original owner doesn’t even have any extras?

I’m not sure there’s an overarching social/community aspect to chipping left.

Ya when I saw all the auctions I thought, “rip Barrie’s wallet. Not how I woulda done it” but everyone has their motivations.

It's like everyone saying we should have term limits for politicians but it never happens.

Everyone thinks it's a great idea, but no one does it. And no one does it because it would put (enter a large number here)% of the site members on blast who would rather not be put on blast. Would've been great to socially enact something like: "Don't threadcrap if you don't always share initial cost of chips when selling, both publicly on site and PRIVATELY."

there should be a section where everyone lists their “I don’t plan to sell but would sell these sets at this top of the mountain price” listings.

That way people who want to list their classifieds at thousands and thousands of dollars over objective market can have them there, and we don’t all have to post nice chips glws and have no public discourse (threadcrapping).

This isn’t specific to mapes, that’s just the latest one.

Plight of a custom sample collector:

People have samples from years past. Some, not all, were gifted or provided cheaply.

They are constantly listed for auction for max market value, because 2-3 people want them.

If you bid, you drive up price, making current and future custom creators not want to sell samples, since they’ll just be resold for profit.

So less samples are available, meaning worth more, and the few released will be auctioned later.

You can either not engage in auctions and miss out on customs, or you just grab what you can whenever you can, understanding that every year more and more people join the camp of “my customs are sacred and I refuse to share samples cause eff chippers”.

(This too is not a shot at any specific person, auctioning custom samples is very much the norm and has been for quite some time. Just came to mind as I’ve spent almost $1k on samples this month, and the number climbing. No shot at custom creators either, I’ve always said if I do a custom, no way I’d be letting samples go to everyone.)

Almost never, to the best of my knowledge.

Can’t fault someone for good timing and getting top dollar! (Who knows what someone’s going through or why they’re selling)

“Not sure if I promised any of the owners first rights of refusal, but please contact me if I did.” isn’t the best look though.

Interestingly, almost everyone overwhelmingly voted “I don’t care who I sell to or buy from”, but imo when someone does this people would be a fool to ever sell them a sample again. $ always wins though.

Defiantly not a thing. I am often saddened when I see my Zombies floating in the free market. I would appreciate them coming home, but not for some sort of profit. All my samples were sold "at cost" (The CPC Zombies) or given away as a gift to anyone that provided us with a free room at a meet-up (Zombie World Edition plaques).

Defiantly not a thing. I am often saddened when I see my Zombies floating in the free market. I would appreciate them coming home, but not for some sort of profit. One could also take it as a compliment that someone deems the sample set nice enough to be worth their effort of trying to sell it. I never see mine for sale

I would think chippers would find this much more infuriating than any flip or NAGB lol

However, I guess, one sample buyer/seller to another sample collector. If they all made it home, there would be less samples out there to enjoy.

I would be fine with returning home and then re-released to collectors. Again, at cost or free.

Sending out samples is a mark of trust. I "trust" you will not sneak my samples back into my game. I do not have any level of trust with the 3rd party buyer, who I do not know even owns "counterfeits".

I actually had one of those today. There will be a special notation of those once the collection gets its permanent display location on my end.

Edit - there’s a huge collection of awesome folks too, not five. I’d say a good 5-10% of my unique collection came gratis, with large chunks coming from meetup.

You’re 100% right, maybe it’s not alllllllways necessary for me to over index on the negative.

If you're gonna use a design I paid for and post it here, I do not care as long as you speak with the designer about using it. I think it's flattering.

Please, at least give me a heads up before you do, for the sole purpose of not letting me feel like I just paid for the design of your new add ons. Even if you've paid my designer already. Like legit one sentence. Otherwise I just feel like a massive chump and I don't like feeling like a massive chump. I'm not gonna go after you like a shark lol.

If you think whomever copies your plaque is wrong, don’t you think The Paris feels the same way about you?

Good point. I think that it is different. I'm not copying any live chip details or anything that could affect the property in any way. If I had an analogy, it would be akin to making custom fracs for the Golden Nugget. Do you think that is wrong too?

Yeah. I have a lot of opinions on the topic that are more extreme than many PCFers. But yeah I don’t think anybody should be using a live casino’s logo or branding on their own chips or plaques. Just my opinion.

I don't think that this opinion is that extreme! I just find it easy to cross the proverbial line when it comes to this topic in particular. I wouldn't buy a Tina set based upon live chips.

But to me, these plaques are so far removed from reality that it is almost akin to a fantasy chip. It would be odd if you disagreed with my plaques but agreed with people relabelling fracs, so at least we're on the same page. It's the same concept as those Super Mario chips or any other tributes out there. Plus, I'm not even in the US. But I may be the odd one out here!

Yes.

And putting stickers on a chip doesn’t make it custom.

And destroying chips by removing the inlay makes it even worse.

And then selling them as “casino name” chip is ridiculous.

And just because a set doesn’t have a particular denomination, or the real denomination is too expensive, doesn’t justify it.

It’s all akin to putting a Ferrari emblem on a Chevy.

Adding a marker such as commemorative would be right. Though don't think I'll ever use someone else's IP or copyright material. Just doesn't feel right. It's not mine to use.

What the incredulity wash across their face. See the confusion in their eyes as they try to do quick mental math and connect that to the idea of small plastic (oh please don't even try to explain "clay" to them) circles. Oh they might seem impressed but you should know they are thinking of all the ways they can avoid involving you in anything that involves responsibility, certainly of a financial nature.

Perspective from a noob. whatever variation of a design was made and paid for should not simply be used without the permission of the creator.
My first set of chips will be Tina chips. It's what I can afford.
I've been reading through similar threads here and at poker chipper where it seems strong opinions usually piss people off and the noobs usually get torched for even having the audacity to chime in but as i see it everyone's opinion is what these forum boards are for.
The plaques are a classy design and look great. I am not seeing a real steal of the Paris stuff and in looking at the chip guide notice that they never made anything even similar to these plaques. Many people use the image of the eifel tower in so many things. The font of the word paris is similar or the same but is a font stealing work? maybe.
I see the complaint was about stealing a personal design then became about stealing the paris artwork. Seems to me there is dozens of fake paris chips around either printed or re stickered among other casino casino chips that have been copied.
In the end I guess I feel that this Tina should have not sold someone's design to someone else without asking and i think whoever ordered it most likely knew they shouldn't have, well, unless Tina showed it to them to make a sale and they simply didnt know. I guess I still have a lot to learn with ordering these tina chips and wether I can order then directly from her or from the vendors on the forum. It also seems there is debate on the molds she prints on also and wether this is also stolen art.
Interesting debates and opinions. Like a moth to a flame I am bouncing around the forum boards on such subjects figuring out if coming to look for a set of poker chips make be a hobby collector, I see how one can lead to the other and how individuals try and influence a person to their vision of collecting poker chips, I havent seen such a way in my coin and stamp collecting but we dont print fake stamps or strike fake coins either.
