Clear bait and switch for the win… (3 Viewers)

I don’t even think he sent the chips he showed him. The ones he showed did look mint. Unless I’m mistaken.
For sure not the chips at all, they were your run of the mill used, flea bit, and played heavily green chips (nothing wrong with that in general ;)). I didn't have the context of the condition that Jers had bought them unfortunately so I thought nothing of it. But a lesson learned for the both of us moving forward and for any of my customers that I work with in the future. Jers has been amazing to work with back and forth on this issue and a shame that this happened to someone like him.

You’re such a sweetheart. 🥰 Seriously, I’m ok with a small life lesson like this happening to me. I can easily afford it, not to sound smug. It doesn’t sting me even a little, so I’m beyond grateful for that vs someone who it potentially would hurt more. Besides, when stuff like this happens, you should see how well my cards run for weeks afterwards!!! 😈😈😈

That’s not an issue, just post an ad and spam it with never ending daily “bumps” :D you’ll get your proper rank.
Absolutely not, cause if I check your history and you’re just bumping your own for sale ad and that literally all your posts, there’s no way I’m buying from you.

By no means am I suggesting that it’s full-proof, but I’m just saying, when it’s a newer member, I’ll at least do my due diligence.

As all members here know, the risk is part of the hobby. We just hope for the best.

I absolutely agree with you, that was a “tongue in a cheek” kind of joke.

You are right, doing bare minimum and checking previous posts and/or sells can save you against some disastrous decisions.

Wait a minute, did this conversation just move you to “two pair”? I’m still not doing business with you! :ROFLMAO:

And in the vein of full disclosure @pokercole offered me a full refund. I want to be crystal clear on this. He has beyond cool and felt awful. I simply didn’t feel right about accepting his offer, as it certainly wasn’t his fault @PepperPaul lied. We just make a minor tweak to the way we handle business moving forward and all is good.
What a gem.

Wow, that's some shady a$$ $hit right there. Sorry this happened to you my friend. I understand the oversight of not checking with Cole before milling. 99% of the members here are outstanding and extremely trustworthy. When you do a ton of deals here you just build a trust in the community that your getting as good if not better chips than described.

It sucks that one lame-o occasionally uses that trust in a deceitful manner. A reminder to everyone to slow down and always proceed with caution, especially with members you haven't previously done business with. Not generally a fan of public posts but this feels warranted so thank you for sharing.

That dude looks just like an old friend of mine named Lee. Mannerisms and all. lol

By no means to disrespect anyone but you can’t fix stupid. I can’t tell you how helpful the post history is here when valuing a deal - in 30 minutes of search you can smell bs when someone is trying to unload a set at 4$ a chip that really has a sub-dollar value. New chippers don’t have that intution and need to do the work. I hope long-term chippers still post and i hope new chippers reach out to them for guidance cause we all can agree we hate shit like what happened here (..at least i hope we all do).
You aren’t suggesting that someone use the “Search” function are you? There is a group of people here that think it’s racist to suggest anyone new look stuff up for themselves. And they will attack you.

SN: As a seller, this is why I try not to classify chips as mint (those are not even close). I will always say good and sometimes great condition, but I'll send additional pictures. Hell, if I received chips straight out a Paulson box and put them on PCF, I'd still list them an excellent condition and offer them for my asking price.
Agreed. I think too many's people's expectations when using the "Minty" tag are way too high (though this case is not close).

I did a sale with @Josh Kifer yonks ago and he used the term "Played but not abused". When I got the chips you'd have never known they'd been used at all. I count myself as a big fan of "under promise, over deliver".

I mean, what we are "arguing" doesn't really matter in this situation as OP lays it out. Chips could've been stated as "beyond mint" or "thrown in a rock tumbler and beat to shit", because either way, what @pokercole allegedly received clearly were not the same pictures as what was shown to @Jers28. Does statement of condition matter if you are getting a bait-and-switch?

Now, as to the secondary discussion, nothing has ever changed. Make a plain statement of condition, be honest about usage and/or any potential issues, and then show the most recent pic you have of them, preferable racked and overhead. Offer more pics on interested party's request. Easy.

Example (offered more pics in last unseen blurb):

Didn't have to say "sharp, near mint, etc." because the pics did the heavy-lifting, although I'm not opposed to someone doing that along w/ the aforementioned, and do it on a situational basis myself.

GL! Hopefully the user will come back and make it right if the situation is as outlined, and are just on a brief absence and not ghosting.

For the first time in my short experience here, we’ve moved fully to a “buyer beware” in every sense.

And we have to “search” to find impropriety?

Someone will always complain about something, I’m just off the mindset to either provide a real marketplace instead of just stickering a warning to use “goods and services” on the website, or just stop modding/admiring classifieds altogether and let the masses do as they see fit.

I think that’s the nature of the hobby. Hell with any hobby, but you have to credit Tommy for at least trying to do what he can to make this a somewhat safe place for exchange. I don’t think that he should stop trying or we should stop making suggestions or calling out the bad apples though. That’s a recipe for disaster for all of us.

I agree with you - and as a new chipper it’s saddening to hear about “better days” but i repeat what i said earlier - these are problems of a maturing market. Any decision of how to improve/evolve is gonna come with tradeoffs that may not satisfy the whole community.

I see this thread as that important “maintenance function” and hope others see/read that the value of honesty and integrity in the course of completing transactions is why we are all here - if your in that bad actor minority - know that you may get away with some BS but in the long run - your going to find it hard to find a buyer/seller - when does the clowning/bumping meet desperation that forces to reality to cover the costs you are looking to recover - all we need to do is not feed these people - no matter how much we want the chips 😂

I'd have looked at his profile and saw a 2019 join date and thought "if dude wanted to scam he probably would've scammed by now" and have the chips sent to @pokercole . Hell of a long game to wait 6 years to be a scammer. I hope dude wakes up and apologizes for using the "incorrect" pictures and refunds all including milling costs quickly.

Those kinds of people aren’t in it for the long haul. Just refuse to buy and they will eventually come down because they can’t stand to have that money tied up in chips they have no use for. Just Wait. Thats probably the most important life lesson no one learns anymore. Thing Always Change. Just Wait.

100% agree

He doesn’t need to go that far. I’d be perfectly content with even the smallest gesture to say “I admit I screwed up”. Own it and move on. Refunding a mere $200 is perfectly acceptable to me. I’ve already invested 20 hours going through every single chip one by one to try to bring them back to life. I have the large wooden C clamps and 43mm ceramic chips on the way to fix the warping. It’s become a personal mission to see how radical a transformation I can make on the things. If I can get the 339 beat up things into two playable racks, fine by me. I offered him $450 for 2 MINTY racks. I paid $650 for 339 chips that are anything, but. However, two playable racks and I pay $450 is fine by me. Did I expect to have to spend money on ultra sonic cleaners and the items to fix warping? No, but that’ll come in handy down the road, I’m sure. How about all my wasted time. I’d chalk that up to a life lesson.

This is definitely a worst case scenario in terms of condition promised vs what arrived. On top of that the milling. I am literally in the process of buying chips, having them milled and shipped directly etc

This is a member I will certainly not purchase from after seeing this.

I’m sorry this happened to you man. Not right at all

I’d change the headline to include the user tag. This really has nothing to do with minty chips. Clear bait and switch.

I agree, this isn't about mint chip condition. He may as well have sent a box of copy paper.

*after seeing some angry or laughing emogis, I'm editing to clarify. This wasn't a joke about the copy paper fiasco of a few months back. I'm saying that the condition of the chips sent is not the issue. The bait and switch here is as much a deception as the mailing of copy paper instead of chips.
