Chips you dislike (1 Viewer)

There may be one or two denoms I like (e.g., PCA $1, $25), but as far as playable sets:

1. Hot stamps
2. TRKs
3. Ritzes
4. Jacks
5. BTPs
6. LCOs
7. Non-Vegas Horseshoes
8. Sunset Beaches
9. PCAs
10. Any set owned by @detroitdad :cool

Damn Larry..........If I had feelings that one might sting a bit

You like those better than ABC Ceramics? If that's the case I may have to block you :)
That's a fair point Bill!

I have always fancied me some DDLMs or the like, so I am being hypocritical somewhat.

I can see myself pulling the trigger on a set someday. I'm really digging that @Potsie1 sale of the PCF set. That's ABC right?

But yes Bill, I do like the ABC stuff. I'd be lying to say otherwise

I have no interest in ceramics, and don’t understand why anyone would. [ducking various heavy, thrown objects]

I agreed with this sentiment...

Dodge....dodge...weave.... dodge (same thrown objects)

Until I sampled me some Alibaba $0.30 cards mold awesomeness! Changed my mind....
You guys need to try some B&G ceramics. If you don’t those ceramics then I’ll listen

This is not a great thread topic because we will invariably end up bashing chips someone owns and loves.

Having said that I am not really a fan of chipcos, ceramics, or china clays. There are always exceptions though.

I also don't really like Bud Jones chips but Borgota chips are amazeballs.
How dare you Sheik!! Camel Clutch for you!!! LMAO

People's taste changes over time. I remember when I was pretty new making similar comments about hot stamp chips. Now I think a solid hot stamp tourney set is the nuts.

My mixed PCR/Avalon v2 cash set with silver/gold hotstamps is the favorite of my regulars, by *a lot*

Also:

* Inlays with boring washed out photographs. Or any photograph, pretty much

* Commemorative/GO chips

* Novelty/excessively themed chips

* Almost any house mold

* Sets with the same spot pattern for every denom

* “Ketchup & mustard” $5s only suitable for playing 1c/2c at a table in McDonald’s

These are the worst. If you don't pick something else, you're a monster.

I used to dislike Paulson Classics, despite playing a cash set in high rotation many years ago. Ugly coloured inlays and all.

But as the years have passed they have grown on me. I am attracted to the very ugliness that used to put me off. Like an out of date style that eventually comes back in fashion.

Maybe it is the familiarity of those colours and edge spots after prolonged exposure. Maybe just nostalgia for simpler times.

I am not saying they are the nuts. Far from it. But I like them now. And this time I am reacquiring a set for keeps.
The inlays are horrible. get some pharaohs instead.. same chip with 1000% better inlays

Primary dislike: Any chipcos.

That white zone where the face meets the rolling edge really bugs me... Plus, it’s accentuated once the chip in question gets any wear.

Royal Yaks... these are chipcos right? Ugh!

Also:
- any CiC Chips
- most solids... <ducks to avoid bricks thrown by solids fans>

Hey, Bill, nothing personal -- you're a great guy. I just think it's remarkable how diametrically opposed our tastes are in chips.
See the smiley? :cool
It's even more important to have friends with diametrically opposed tastes for women :)

The ugliness is exactly what draws me to the Classics. Sort of a kitschy, retro feel to them. That plus the nostalgia of sessions played long ago.

I agree Pharaohs are objectively nicer but I find them a bit too normal by comparison. If the goal were simply nicer looking chips, there are many other alternatives out there I would default to.

But I'm after iconic, fugly nostalgia.

love the mold, love the set(s) and even owned V1 as my tournament set for quite a few years, but i've never liked this particular chip:
