A different thread got me wondering about chip weights. So I threw a few stacks of 10 from my modest collection on the scale. Would love so see some results from others.

Most surprising to me was the new (unleaded I assume) NY/NY casino chips almost clocked in at 10g/chip.

I understand this is a collectors forum but people seem preoccupied with 0.5 gram/chip either way. I would be interested in how people fair in a blindfolded test. My money would be on 80% of people not being able to tell the difference.

I am not knocking this thread. I love seeing the different weights of each chip. I am just suggesting that without the help of a scale my guess is most people wouldn't know the difference.

It looks like your quarters are the only ones close to the "official" weight.;)

For a slightly better comparisons of the CPC chips, you'd need to make sure that all 10 chips have the brass flakes. But in general they are lighter than GPI Paulson chips.

My money would be on me being in that 20% category. :D

I’m in the don’t care category, but I also expect I’d be able to notice the difference blindfolded.

Just gave the wifie (uninfected by the chipping bug) a 10 stack of Scandia (9.2g), NY (9.8g) and Horseshoe snappers (10.8g) and asked her to put them in order from lightest to heaviest. She got it right and said it was easy. I totally agree that a couple of tenths wouldn't make a big difference but a whole gram per chip is pretty easy for me to identify.

This isn't real science. Ask her to quickly down 2 tequila shots, do a handstand, and then try again...

So you're saying the NYNY chips are too heavy? Easy solution...just send them to me :D

I seem to remember the st joes hundos being a brick like 13.5 grams each....anyone else .

I'm sure I'm in the 2g club. Telling 14g from 11g is pretty easy, and I can tell 11g from 9 I bet. But I don't think I'd be confident at a different tolerance on single chips.

Maybe the differences are more pronounced in quantity.

Obviously when I switched from 14g to 11g I could tell a big difference carrying my case of 600. I probably could pick up a subtler difference at that quantity too.

I can tell the difference when it’s obvious - like Modern Clay vs. PNY - but do not have a preference as to heavier or lighter.

Within certain sets, WTHC yellow (or is it red?) vs. gray for example, there can be quite a bit of variation between different colored denominations.

Yes, there's also a huge difference between several PNY denoms.

I’m just shocked that those horseshoe snappers are 10.8 grams apiece.

Not a fan of 13 or 14 g chips, for example my Matsui "Blue Sands" were definitely much too heavy (and too slippery at the same time), but I like my Paulsons as heavy as possible, at least up to around 11 g. A RHC PNY $5, with its barely 8g, feels extremely light-weight and insubstantial when compared to a THC Aztar $1 ...

A couple more.... the Starburst bounties are 39mm ceramic hybrids.
