Hi...need y'alls expert opinion on this. Now first I would like to preface this with saying I have pretty much decided on Key Wests for my first "real" set...not interested in used casino chips at this time and don't want to spend $3+ a chip on Paulson sets.

So, for a traveling cash set, I've narrowed it down to Valentino ceramics or WPS china clays.

Since china clays didn't exist before my hiatus, I was hoping to hear any pros and cons. I've done some searching, but I'm not clear if they have flaking/label issues or they don't, or what....they do feel somewhat plasticy.

All the ceramic samples I got are really nice. They all have a nice texture and didn't find any spinners, so it just comes down to which graphics I liked. But how do they wear? Does the printing hold up over time?

Anyway, thanks in advance.

Not all CC chips are created equal. Not all ceramics are created equal.

IMHO, clay chips > than any other chips.

IMHO ceramics and CC chips are both vastly different, and about equal in terms of desirability.

I would say this.. let your art dictate the medium. If you have a desire for custom work and have the extra few cents why not go ceramic? Larger surface with unlimited possibilities. Custom edgespots / rolling edge text. Basically custom in the truest sense.

China clays are great too. Truer "clay" chip in weight and feel. Customizable by label only. Easy to add on to existing sets. Less lead time and cheaper final product. But there are drawbacks..No spot progressions..unless you relable Pharaoh's or the forthcoming Dunes. But those chips have a mold that says Pharaoh's or Dunes. Thickness consistency always seems to be an issue as well.

Ceramic all the way imo but I agree with @Quicksilver-75 - let the designer have some input and see what he advises as the best medium.

IMHO i prefer Valentino.

I've played with it and for ceramics are really nice.

Thanks for the help guys.

Not planning on any customs yet at this time. Just would like to get a couple of nice stock sets and then see if the custom bug hits me.

Definitely the Valentinos are on the short list.
