Ragman
High Hand
While I've not yet made up my mind, I'm leaning heavily toward laying in a cash set of Majestics. I do have a sample set of them and know their charms and limitations. There is a set listed here in the classified I'm seriously considering, but I'm looking at ways to expand it. Not a huge deal since they are stock (although color variations are, of course, a concern).
So, in addition to having a limit set, I've started thinking about micro-stakes no limit, like 5c/10c blinds, $10 max buy-in or 10c/20c $20 max, etc. as a way to get people playing. For that reason I'm thinking somewhere between 150 and 14,000 Majestic 5c chips will be needed. Anyone know of a source for these, or have a treasure trove they they've been waiting to unload on a nit like me?
As things stand now, I really can't stomach the idea of paying $68 a rack for custom labelled Majestics ($0.38 per blank, plus two $0.15 custom laminated labels). My current thinking, beyond driving myself ape-sh*t trying to make a decision, is to strongly consider a stock labelled Majestic set. $39 per rack for labelled vs. $38 for blanks, vs. $68 for custom labelled, just makes it too attractive not to consider. I've also looked at all the other Apache CC variants and the Majestics are my favorite.
I do have a sample set of (middle-grade?) ceramics coming in this weekend (Valentino High Rollers). Depending on how I like the feel of that level of ceramics, I may consider a stock set or even a semi-custom set of those. Problem with that is I just don't love any of the stock ceramic designs. And if I am going to get crazy and start designing my own ceramics from Sunfly I'd probably just bite the bullet and save up for some stock CPC Atlantic Clubs, Key Wests, or similar. Of course, if I'm going to spend $150 a rack on stock fantasy chips, I might as well just start building a mixed set of real Paulson casino chips.
Do you see how crazy you guys have made me?!? Whatever happened to easy decisions? The more I know the harder it is.
I do have a set of minty fresh Paulson gargantuan-inlay zodiac solids that I've had for years and essentially never used, and I've played in plenty of card rooms with real deal clay chips, so I know that the china clays represent a compromise. I've also played with ABS and other craptacular chips, and while the price point is right at $15 a rack, to me the slugged heavyweight clinkers are a no go. Same thing with the Nexgen variants. While I've admittedly not handled them, I'm going to pass.
So, yeah, there it is.
