Casino Chip Madness (CCM): Best Full Casino Sets of All Time - Nomination Thread (1 Viewer)

BTW, the creating of brackets is encouraged! Just copy and paste it into MSPaint and use the typing function with white type.

Here's mine:

Unable to walk past a bracket without filling it in. Not how I'm going to vote, but kind of how I see it, with an obligatory upset.

Agree about that match-up, but I'm personally more bummed by the Silver Birds getting demolished in the first round :(

FTR the sets were seeded according to number of nominations and for the purposes of ranking within the same number of nominations, I gave the advantage to the sets that were nominated first in time. So unfortunately once I landed on that structure, the above match-ups were inevitable.

Wait, wait, wait... hold on. You're telling me that none of the Nevada Clubs and/or Riverside chips made the cut?

lol

If that's true, clearly there was a misunderstanding somewhere. There's a reason those things sell for $20+ a chip :)

Just went back and reread your submission rules... ya... might have something to do with the confusion here

My picks

Round 2

Aztar

Trops
Bellagio

PCA
WSOP

Aviation Club
Dunes

Round 3

Alright if we're posting our own choices and not just what we think the majority will choose...

Can someone please explain to me how the hell the Crystal Parks got that many votes? Ditto with Silver Bird and Aviation Clubs. Feh.

The Parks benefit from classic set status among a lot of us for whom they were one of the first casino sets easily available in quantity. I'm not surprised to see them get a bit of a nostalgia bump. Not sure about the Silver Birds, but I'm glad to see it.

The Aviation Clubs look gorgeous imo and while they don't make my list primarily because I don't generally favor tournament sets, I do like the simple, classic inlay and some of those colors and spots are perfect.

Silver Birds is the ultimate community college 16 seed sacrificial lamb. nh, gg birdies.

My decidedly non-mainstream choices --

Second round:

Silver Bird
PNY

Trops
Vineyards

PCA sec
WSOP Sec

Aviation Club
Dunes

Third round:

Silver Bird
Vineyards

PCA sec
Aviation Club

Fourth round:

Vineyards
PCA sec.

Champion:

Vineyards

Comments:

- PNY: I love the $1s and $25s. As a Jersey/NYC guy, the rest of the inlays suck.

- PCA sec: a slight weakness to the $1s and $25s.

- I played at the Aviation Club several times, so that undoubtedly boosts them in my opinion. But the colors are a bit flat.

- Mapes have stupendous $1s and $5s; I hate the $25s.

- Bellagios are impressive, but only because of the investment needed to obtain them.

- Crystal Parks leave me stone cold, except that I worked in a section of Arlington, VA, called Crystal Park for many years.

- Ritz Carlton chips leave me stone cold, and I've played with them at the casino.

- I'm not much of an old school chip guy. No TRKs, Trops, Dunes, etc. need apply. I respect those guys who have and love them, but they're not really for me.

- Silver Birds vs. Vineyards was tough -- whichever I chose was going to win over the PCAs. I love silver CICs. If the Silver Birds didn't exist, it would be Aruba Americanas or Grand Casino Mullet Bays in that slot.

- For my personal taste, it comes down to Vineyards vs.Treasures, and I'm not sure which way I'd vote on that heads-up match. Treasures have been growing on me more and more these days -- the colors are superb across the board.

Is it fair to add all the benefits of a set vs. the "competition" to the voting posts? I think a little lobbying should be part of the process!

This thread clearly turned into a "post your favorite chips that you own" thread when it was intended to be the best looking casino sets of all time. Since most members haven't actually seen nice sets, well... PNY, Crystal Park, Vineyard, Aviator Club, and Silver Bird happen!

This thread was a good idea, unfortunately it clearly didn't work out the way it should have. :)

My 3 cents

I don't think this is a valid bracket, as "Riversides, Suck It Edition" are not a valid casino chip. This is like writing in Chattanooga State University into the Final Four in your NCAA bracket (btw, if you want to do this, I have a $25 HU pool you should enter)

More like writing in the top ranked, undefeated team because the bracket had a misprint :)

Put a set of Crystal Park chips next to a set of Riversides or Nevada Clubs and find me someone who says "I'll take the Crystal Parks please" and I'll show you someone who's next question is, "does a straight beat a flush?"

I'd take Eliott's Riversides over the Parks without question, but I'd take the Parks over the Nevada Club/Lodge chips.

This is *so* interesting, it's it?

I mean, I owned a set of Parks once, for about 15 minutes. They went back in the classifieds before they were ever fully unpacked. They just weren't for me, and I could tell right away. However, you'd have to pry my Nevada Lodge chips out of my cold dead hands -- my Dunes, Trops, and Ritz are all leaving before my Nevada Lodge (don't make me prove it).

I think that's one thing that's pretty fun about this "hobby" (obsession). While many people like the same thing, there is a very broad spectrum of preference (thankfully). And people tend to really lock on to certain sets. I love that.

We get it, youre in love with TRK. Theres a larger contingent of Paulson lovers than TRK, thats just a fact. If I had my choice I would have zero TRKs, besides the Mapes. We each have our own opinions, JButler did a sweet job putting this together, he went by the sets that had the most nominations. Maybe get some of your fellow TRK lovers to speak up or join PCF to get the vote the way you want, otherwise, no reason to thread crap

Trying to figure out if you are being funny or are just exceedingly arrogant.
