I recently bought a decent size lot of sample chips. Pretty sure I overpaid but not really sure.

I somewhat arranged them by value that I assumed they would be except the ceramics at the bottom. Im curious if anyone can give me any input what this lot would actually be worth or if I was to sell any of these chips what I should actually get for them?

Are the cracked ones even worth saving vs just tossing in the trash along with a bunch of the plastic ones on top left?

The Paulsons are pretty worn.
The Flamingo, Dunes, Pharoahs, Outlaws, Desert Palms, Blank Las vegas mold don't float my boat.

I actually like the Monte Carlos way more than I thought I would but still wouldn't want a real set of them.
The Milanos aren't bad but don't like them as much as I thought I would.
The Casino Royale I kinda like especially the ones with denom around the chip.
The metal face ones I really don't care for
The Aura casino ones intrigue me. They sound different and are very smooth.
The white horse mold intrigue me too.
Big top I like much more than I thought I would.
The weird LB mold green $25 I don't know what to even call them.

I kinda like the looks of the Joker ceramic but my first and only prior samples where a Valentino set so I already knew I liked ceramics so no need to keep any of those.

I want to pass along or toss about 3/4 of the lot but would like to make a better educated deal this time around.

Aside from the faded jokers Seattle fracs, I don’t see any other Paulsons there, and probably not any other clays.
Personally I’d say they’re worth the cost of shipping. Realistically, as a lot I’d say ten cents per chip might be on the high side. You’ve got a pile of used stuff there that retails new from ten to forty cents per chip.

Given the number of Chinese ceramic replicas (Flamingo, Big Top Poker, and others), it was likely a PCF seller.

Hopefully you weren't under the impression they were authentic casino chips.

Kinda what I figured. Paid $75 for about $20-30 in chips.
All the good sample lots have been going to new members only or free with drawings that I never win so I guess I was a little to eager to jump on this lot to be able to see some samples for once.

Yeah I remember seeing that listing and without taking a closer look, it instantly looked like a bad deal. Not unconscionable, but not good. If we were able to mark classifieds as good deal or bad deal, I would have checked a box.

That's the kind of luck I have. I had a chance to buy the Valentino set for 75% ish of new via pm. Wasn't a great deal and decided to keep looking while looking into custom ceramics. A week later I never saw the listing go up for 1/3 of new price and sell right away. A week after that the new owner has a trade listing up or asking 75% of new again via pm.
Just seems crap like this drives up prices especially for new chippers or for sure discourages even trying to get a deal on used chips. The deals worth buying seem to sell within minutes giving a new chipper no time to even find out if it's a good deal or not. Flip a coin hope for the best and keep putting money in the hands of sharks on here or at the table.

You should have a chat with the new chippers who are snap buying that stuff just turn around and resell it to other new chippers at a profit. One new guy started selling chips at a markup before he even got them in the mail. Rail all you want at the old timers, but it’s the newer guys creating some your problems.

He was new too. Makes me wonder how many start new accounts just for that reason. And the new guys are only ones eligible for the giveaways etc not taking into account how much they've bought and sold damn near weekly in the last months to a year.

There are no short cuts, gotta educate yourself about what stuff is worth going for and at what prices. Granted, there is more cheap crap out there nowadays and more people looking to profit off of inexperienced buyers.

@Sparkynutz I sold these to you. I’m sorry if you feel like you were misled in any way. That would never be my intention.

Realistically it would cost way more than what you paid to gather up all of these different cheaper chips and handle them all in one shot. I thought it would be helpful to someone. Wasn’t looking to profit off of anyone’s lack of experience with this stuff.

I love this community and try to have a good reputation around here. If you’re frustrated with this, PM me and we can work something out.

Best,
JB

Not a bad collection of cheap chips, as long as you understood that that’s what you were getting. It would take roughly what you paid to accumulate the chips separately, but this looks like more of a cleaning out the closet sale than something to help a new chipper.

I would’ve checked out the free options first (the rack of chips available to new chippers to “rent” for the cost of shipping), which would have served the same purpose without you feeling like you might’ve been had.

This part was more of a general observation and not directed at any particular person/sale btw, although I realize it could be taken as such.

If you want @Sparkynutz I’ll take all the pink chips in your lot and send you Paulson replacements. The Paulsons won’t be anything of great value, but would still be a good trade for, I’d imagine.

No way to sugar coat it. You bought a grab bag of mostly trash.

$75 is a huge overpay. This looks like something that normally is just given away.

On the bright side, it was only $75.

Also, you're on the right forum to learn more. Delve into the forum and start learning. Equip yourself with knowledge so you can make an educated decision next time. Don't hesitate to ask questions, people are always willing to assist.

A single of the Jokers Wild fracs would work (or one of each) - not trying to snatch the only Paulsons from your lot.

For reference, I have a small collection of pink chips that I give to my daughter.

All good. My fault for assuming there was more desirable samples in the lot.

I do not feel misled and didn't mean to bash.

It hasn't been easy trying to get my hands on chips that interest me or atleast find out what that is or would be.

It was still a learning experience even if 95% of the chips in the lot weren't even on my radar as something I may be interested in.

I hadn't seen the thread you speak of.
A few of the giveaway threads I either wasn't eligible for due to membership length or didn't win I messaged or posted about a few of the chips I was interested in. None of those messages or pms were responded to if even read.

If all Paulson chips feel like the ones I did get in this lot or eventually damage like these I honestly wouldn't want or consider owning any for playing purposes. I don't collect any at this time with the exception of wanting a few stratosphere chips in whatever brand they were made in. I stayed there in 2007 and wish I had gotten some chips to bring home.

If you are interested in them, do you have any
Mario samples?
Stratosphere?
Starwars,
Bounty chips,
Dealer buttons?
Or anything bright orange, pink, blue, green?

I'm hoping to make a set similar to Valentino someday in bright colors
or find a Mario cash set

I honestly don't know what I'm looking for samples wise. Just not any more plastic walmart or Amazon type chips I guess.

I still wouldn't mind finding out more about the horse mold ones along with the Aura casino chips.
Are they offered in sets? What price point etc?

Not sure where the thread is, but I know @allforcharity runs the new chippers sample rack.

LMK if you want to unload the pinks. Here’s what my desk looks like at the moment (original artwork not for sale):

Can also vouch for @WedgeRock he hooked my daughter up with the pink cards in my first pic

What are the 2 orange and one lime green ones in the rack?
I don't really want chips with stickers or something easily damaged. I do want to try and find out what shades to make a custom set someday or what color they are called. I've seen color samples sometimes but not sure how that translates to colors for ceramics or Tina's etc.

It's obviously subjective, but Paulsons are highly regarded clay chips. As mentioned before, you didn't get a very good idea of what Paulsons are like in the batch you bought.

So dealer buttons are much different than chips.

I don't have any of the chips you are looking for but you should really check on the new member rental. Bud Jones are high end plastics (as are Matsui, B&G and others). I love Bud Jones, but they're not for everyone. Ceramics vary widely, but Chipco blanks feel the best, IMO. There are Paulons and CPCs in the clay category. Older makers like Blue Chip and TRK are not pumping out new chips, but you can find them around still.

Valentino's fall below most of those in quality (and security). You can find casino Paulsons or Bud Jones in varying conditions for $1-$2 chip.

Ty for the info and I should add Mitsui, BG and Bud Jones to sample wanted list. Clay makers, not so much.
Can you tell me more about the orange and lime green chips in your pic? Color name? Type?

I would buy these nex gens from you….these were the first chips I ever bought. I thought they were the best thing ever…I think I had every color.

2 orange are probably some blaze orange roulettes - the best Paulson color (IMO, and by PCF vote).

Lime greens are Chipco (ceramic) Fan of Cards quarters - not available, sorry, but I think I bought the rack for $15.

I also have plenty of card molds samples, but I think you already have some?

I do have a full Mario sample set, including the later-made Hi-Lo chips. Can’t guarantee I can locate the full sample though (see messy desk pic)

No extra Stratospheres outside of a single $1 for my collection.

I think I just promised my last Star Wars dealer button to another member yesterday, but @Himewad might be running another group buy (GB) for them soon.

No bounty chips - straight cash homie

Plenty of dealer buttons if that’s what you’re looking for

A couple of blaze chips as seen in the desk photo. Not too much of pink/green. Lots of Paulson $1 blues.

Nothing in terms of “horse molds,” but those are fairly common across the forum, I think (search HHR and HHL).

Not sure what you mean by “Aura” chips, maybe Aurora Star? If so, I only have a barrel of $20s and looking for more.

Clay makers, not so much.

Not to steer you towards clay chips. But if you are basing your opinion on compressed clay chips based solely on your sample set then your impression is off.

Those chips are well worn casino paulsons. Those spent years in circulation in a casino being used 24/7 for several years.

New clay chips in a typical home game (weekly or monthly schedule) environment will never wear down like that. It would take decades in a home game to wear like that.

You should see a casino worn ceramic chip. The art will be completely worn off the chip in several areas.

Plastic chips are the most durable though. If thats your primary concern.

Looking closer, are the white ones bulls?
Here is a pic of the Aura chips. They don't feel or sound anything like any of the other chips.
Know anything about the green ones?

The white ones are unicorns (though I agree they do look like bulls). Lighter-weight offerings. Seen occasionally in older casino sets as fractionals or like they had at the local tribals around here, tournament chips.
