Playing our normal 1-2 game, it is middle early in the session and everyone is having fun. This is going to be a battle between Crazy and a crafty, older, profitable LAG. Both are playing $700+, crazy is down over $500 while Crafty LAG is ahead $500.

Our Crafty LAG is UTG with and raises to $4. We get five way action including Crazy playing the CO. $20 in the pot, five players to see a flop.

Flop is

Two checks to Crafty LAG who bets $15. Crazy calls, everyone else folds. $50 in the pot and we are heads-up to see a turn.

Turn is < >

Craft LAG bets $50, Crazy calls. $150 in the pot, two players to see a river.

River is < >

Crafty LAG bets $50. Crazy goes into Hollywood mode - a classic tell where he fondles his chips, counts out a huge overbet and D R A G S out his eventual fold. Several of us are making fun of Crazy when he breaks pattern and raises $450 more.

Crafty LAG doesn't quite know what to do. He starts asking Crazy questions and offering him money to show one of his cards (which Crazy often does much to his determent). After 30 seconds of banter, Crazy says he doesn't have a pair - he has a good flush. Crafty snap calls and Crazy tables first and then a few seconds later.

The Crafty LAG looses all composure. He spews words ( and chips ) for several hands fuming about being lied to, slow rolled and the lack of honesty. He ends up with less than $25, gets up to go smoke but just disappears and isn't seen again that night. (Good news for the good Doctor - when we check on Crafty to make sure he is OK, he donates the last of his chips to help cover the cost of hosting. )

Go figure, someone actually lied about flopping quads. No doubt Crazy will burn in Hell for that.

The slow roll could be a little tilting, but I honestly don't usually mind at a home game where everyone knows each other, as long as it's done with sufficient dramatic flair and not constantly all night. If someone wants to bust out a slow roll for quads or a straight flush, I'm fine with that.I do tell my crew not to ever do it at a casino though.

Another person lying about their hand is a bizarre thing to get tilted about though. He's just gonna take his word for it that the other guy is donating him $450 in a poker game?

I would then post a flyer indicating Crazy's fine, as a reminder of how much fun it is to slow roll - and dinner break would be nicely catered, thanks to Crazy.

As for "lying" (some would call it bluffing), I default to "ask me no questions, and I will tell you no lies".

No foul for lying. I do that constantly in friendly home games and in casinos. A couple guys have gotten pissed but for the most part people know what's up.

Unless the slow roller is someone to whom I've made claw that I advocate slow rolling as much as possible, the slow roll is irritating but tolerable to a degree.

Lol if I was this anal about "rules" and this extreme in my enforcement literally every one of my games would be completely empty. Maybe we just have no standards (actually that's a definite) but the games sure are fun and good, the latter because of the former.

For the record, Crazy often slow rolls his losers too. It is all part of the show - and what a show it is. I have never played with someone anything like this guy.

Truth is, the slow roll is nothing. I have seen him dance a jig shouting "sucker fish!" or " what were you thinking playing those cards?" when he wins a big pot pretty much every session he plays. There is almost nothing that is off limit if the mood strikes Crazy. Fortunately his personality is so sweet that people rarely stay mad for long.

The table is in an on-going uproar when he is around. We find it an agreeable trade - Crazy has fun and gets to gamble it up and we all share in his losses. The game is a riot every time he plays.

Not to hijack the thread but Crazy reminds me of one of my favorite stories about allowing a fish to be an asshole for all the right reasons:

100/200 NL, commerce reg shows up drunk at like 3am, perky is stuck maybe 150k and uber tilted. Reg buys in for 80K. Perky is down to 15K maybe...doubles thru the reg on a suicide/tilted over shove w like T high and pulls a "I have nothing show ur hand" for 30 seconds maybe....they get it in next hand perky has an airball again and agan 30 second "I missed slow roll"....reg reloads and warns perky not to do that sht again...reg is drunk and NOT HAPPY. Everyone else is laughing hysterically....very next hand they again get it in pre flop...

Story doesn't tell that well, but some of us were crying we were laughing so hard

I don't think that any of that was particularly bad. Crafty was probably pissed because he knows he made a rough, fairly unfoldable hand and lost. Hey, that's poker. I would say however that the turning over of the cards seconds apart is a douche bag move. Coincidentally razzing the action player about tells and folding is equally, if not worse. It very well may have influenced crafty into calling, possibly with an even worse hand than he had (IMO a 90% unfoldable hand). The storming off is what I'd expect. Those are some big bucks! If there is a hand anybody would fold a F/H this would be it.

I should have added an *. As with all of poker, "It depends" is a perpetual caveat. Obv, a Jbutler style game, or a game where players can piss away what equates to 3 years of my salary in a single hand, the mood will be very different from what I am accustomed to. I am however, very adept at adjusting my personality to the room. If Crazy is always like this, and it is expected, I would not be concerned. If Crazy is a perpetual douchebag, we could always slip a blanket over his head, knock him out, and drag him to the Jersey shore. When he awakes, he will think he is in d-bag heaven.

Given this (and the level to which he usually gets crushed,) nothing Crazy did here was out of line IMO. I can understand where the guy who lost a $1k pot might be annoyed in the moment, but he needs to get over it.

There have been many nights Crafty snookered Crazy. About a year ago Crafty paid Crazy $100 to see his hand on the turn. (they were heads up) Each is playing about $600 back. Crazy shows some mid-strength hand, Crafty jams all and Crazy decides Crafty is bluffing him. Dumb move by Crazy, time for another rebuy. I saw some justice in Crazy selling Crafty the "I has the flush" story. . . . .But he is still mad.

PS One of my best Crazy stories - - - one year I brought a bag of bite sized candy bars and kept tossing them into the pot as a sweetener. I kid you not, Crazy just couldn't fold with three snickers in the pot. Not to say Crazy didn't win some hands but he was absolutely taking the worst of it unless you valued a bite sized candy bar at $25+.

Playing in the $4/$8 limit game at BBoTB, slow rolls with big hands were the norm. It got to the point that I was girded for a loss in the hand until all other villains' hands were in the muck. Actually was a fun atmosphere, but that's definitely a unique situation.

I did not intentionally slow roll quads once, I hit them on the flop (449) and the board paired 9s on the turn, giving better quad possibility and based on how 1st to act was acting (like he boated the flop), I really thought I was beat, so when calling all in after two minutes and flipping quad 4s, he got all sorts of pissed off and left the game and bitched to the host about my play. For me, the $200ish call at that point in my life was huge, so I really did have to think, was I pissing away all my free $ for the month on one hand a good idea?

More experience and more money (not necessarily better play though), it would be a quicker call, but do you ever look at quads and think, dammit, I might get crushed here?

I don't think I've ever lost with quads (well, other than in Follow the Queen ) but I did actually fold quads on the river once in PLO - board was KK666, I had a six and bet the river and got jammed on by the nittiest nit ever. Of course he had KK (he showed it.)
