Not Mine Buck a chip Outposts? (1 Viewer)

No math major here, but I get the same answer as you. ;)

You're initial post says the auction claims 40,000 chips. It only claims 40 racks when I look at it. Which equals 4,000. There's no mention of 40,000 in the auction. My post was aimed at the confusion I experienced at the 40,000 chips claim. Where'd that come from? :)

Math, eh. But reading comprehension I can do. Check out the quantity available field:

40 racks = 4,000 chips. The seller says he has 40,000 available. I took a shot and placed the first order for 40 chips. You likely don't have to guess which ones I wanted. There are now 39,960 left.

$1/chip is not a good price for the lower denominations. $1 and $5 chips do not fetch those prices, especially the one's. The $20 chip might go for $1 each on a lucky day. As for the $100s - - - - a greedy person might have tried to buy them all up from the seller at a dollar each. I just got what I wanted for my set.

Even if the seller only has 40 racks (or 4,000 chips) that is a mighty horde of outpost chips. Almost twice what I have . . . . and I don't need any more aside from 40 of the old school $100s

Update

Seller confirms he has 40 $100 outposts with the small inlay, accepted my payment and (on a lucky day) will ship my chips shortly.

Very interesting! Doesn't seem like they're coming from the owner of The Outpost... he would never let the $100s go that cheap. :)

Interesting that most of he pictures chips are large inlay.

Thanks for insight DrStrange. I wasn't aware of the market price for Outpost chips. I just assumed that the high denominations would have some demand above $1. And clearly this many chips hitting the market will certainly drive prices even lower.

What really got my attention was the claim of having 40,000 chips available. That's a lot of chips! I wonder if they are largely the second issue RHC rack which I haven't seen floating around in quantity before.

I hope you get the THCs you need!

I have never had a single Outpost $100 chip. Missed out when they were "cheap" and did not get around to picking them up for the set. (I also didn't buy the rack of $0.10 chips either at $700/rack. But I was tempted.)

Don't put a lot of credit on the market values for Outposts - the market is set by six+ month old auctions representing only a few racks. That being said:

$0.25 go for ~$2/chip. The spots are mostly split, the condition is lightly used and there will be spinners.
$0.50 might go for $1/chip. Grand inlay with a few old style chips. I do not recall ever seeing the old style in rack quantities.
$1 chips are the biggest part of the Outpost family. They are USED, one of the most worn chips you might see. My players love them for the butter smooth surfaces. ~$0.50 per chip
$2 chips are uncommon, maybe go for $2+/chip if anyone is selling. Almost new, there will be spinners.
$5 chips are second only to the $1s - very common. Not as worn as the $1's but nothing close to uncirculated. You might find a near mint rack for top dollar, but the used ones are worth $0.75/chip.
$20 chips are the third workhorse chip from Outpost. Better condition than the $5s but still casino used. There are a few uncirculated racks out there but the used ones are ~$1/chip
$25 chips are uncommon and uncirculated to very good condition. $2/chip?
$100 chips are less common and likely would sell for more than $2/chip, but who knows?

Back in the day, you could buy 1,000 outpost chips for $600 (600 $1s, 300 $5s, 100 $20s) The original seller would sell other stuff. Rarely you could get good deals, unlike today where the seller expects single chip pricing for racks. Outpost has two locations with different chips. They also replaced their chips with grand inlays at the very end of their run.

I have something like 2,400 Outpost chips, notably 400 $0.25 chips and 100 $2 chips. My playing set is 200x $0.25, 300 $1, 300 $5, 60 $25 and 100 $100 chips from river city.

I bought 2 racks of these when they were first listed on eBay and I reckon there are 2 different versions. One rack are as you described with split spots, the other rack didnt have a single split spot. Both racks were chalky new.

I found an old pic. The split spot chips are also a slightly darker shade of pink

A few racks of small inlay .50s went through my hands. They're out there in both new and slightly used condition. Didn't know a rack of dimes was ever offered. I asked the owner many times about those...

Some nice chips in the set, pity about the inlay being.....average

Like i need to spend more money. I see some with giant inlays that look new. Has anyone asked the seller if they will sort?

Terrible timing on this with all the whiskey releases and Christmas right around the corner. I just booked a trip to Vegas on Sunday as well. It's just money, right?

I have been looking for more of the second issue $1s for a while now. My crew plays a lot of limit O8 and I would like to have enough for everybody to buy a rack of blues.

This is all that is left. All used.

25 racks of $1s
27 racks $5s
12 racks $100s

Split spots are first issue LCVs. The others are the SCVs.

Well, meant I wanted some fractionals if I was going to buy some. :)

I contacted the seller and got a somewhat cranky ALL CAPS response. "DON'T CONTACT ME UNLESS YOU ARE BUYING CHIPS." It was nice of her to respond though :)

ps she said she has no connection with the owner of the Outpost "I AM eBay SELLER"

You sure about that? The auction now states 59,722 chips available :p

Listing went from 40 racks / 40,000 chips to 60 racks / 59,722 available chips (618 sold). Maybe she thinks there are 1000 chips in a rack....

I contacted the seller and said if she would sell at Jim's recent even Stephens prices or close to it I'd be in for 1000. She said $1 a chip. I'd pay that for the 20's and 100's but not for 1's and 5's.

Yeah, at this point (small inlay $100s and $20s gone) I would pay $50 a rack for $1s or $5s. When she sits on these for a year, she will change her tune.

Keep in mind the seller has almost no clue about these chips. The pricing was wrong on both ends. We snapped up the bargains and left the dregs. It would be easy to reach the wrong conclusion about the market given how fast the best chips sold and how illiquid the outposts have been the last year.

And we can't be counting our chips just yet. I was the first order and nothing is in hand yet -=- DrStrange

I don't know what it is about Bell Gardens... whenever I have an item go through there... total havoc. Good Luck.

Chips arrived today. All I can say is thank god the mailer package didn't tear open..... because the seller was totally clueless on how to ship these:

"Place 100 chips in a rack, run a single piece of cellophane tape from one end to the other (masking the middle third of the chips in each barrel), slip the rack into an oversize bubble mailer with no padding or filler material, and close with just the peel-n-stick sealer. Add shipping label and let the evil USPS workers at it."

Needless to say, very few chips remained in that 'taped' rack during the six day trip from Nevada-to-California-to-Georgia. Ended up with a 9x11 mailer full of loose chips banging into each other and the loose rack. Even my non-chipping wife knows better; she handed me the package this afternoon saying, "You're not gonna like the sound of this." Thankfully no chips were damaged, and since the mailer miraculously arrived unscathed, none were lost.

So, received a total of 100 x $100 Outpost Casino San Ramon small-inlay Paulson TH&C chips, in used but very good condition. I'd put 'em on par with the Empress secondary hundos (maybe a tad better, no nicks anywhere on these), plus they are much cleaner with no rack-check marks. One genuine used Paulson rack included, so a pretty good deal for $100 shipped. According to the eBay listing, there are 59,705 chips remaining, although no small-inlay hundos are left in that count.

Just... wow... I think you were rather benevolent with your description "totally clueless", but I'm glad it worked out for you, Dave. Nice score!
