Beginners Sample Pack (3 Viewers)

Thanks Darson! Awesome find!! Too bad I don't see the $25 green chips for sale, but the other chips I'm looking for are on sale. I appreciate your help!!
Just by the green ones with the light green edge spot and transfer the labels from the broken chips. They're close enough and can't beat the price.

This is something I’m interested in before I make a purchase of my first poker set, only problem is I’m in the uk.. is there anyone in the uk that has any samples I could borrow?? Same kind of chips that were on offer..

Update:

I can now include the 43mm Sun-Fly hybrids as I have received the Mountain Top Chips.

For an additional $10 deposit I can also include a sample of the Gemaco advertising chips (primarily Paulson Elite style)

Just posting to say everything went smoothly with forty4 and would recommend this to other new people who have never felt ceramic, china clay, clay composite etc. poker chips before.

If for whatever reason you have narrowed down your search already to 2 or 3 specific poker chips, you may just want to buy the samples for those specific chips and decide from there. Because that might be about the same price as shipping forty4's chips to and from your address. But if you're like me and wanted to sample many different kinds of chips then use this thread.

Updated shot.
Removed the old chipco chips because not sure what is going on with GOCC.
Added blank ceramics of various sizes, 43mm sunfly hybrids. Some more China clays.
Additional $10 deposit gets Gemaco advertising chips and Matsui

I've got some Spirit mold solids I can send to add to the sample set. Why the hell I bought a rack of these I dunno but they're just too brittle to actually use.

I borrowed this set from @Forty4 while trying to finalize a purchase decision on a new set for a new home game. From watching videos, reading reviews, and looking over photos, I was confident that I would get a set of China Clay Milanos. Came across this thread and thought it wouldn't hurt to check out them and more in person.

Getting samples is highly stressed on many threads, and this offering covers a great range of chips. It should be a requirement that new members become aware of this thread. After handling the chips for a few days, I locked in two purchases on two different sets (tourney and cash), and am looking for one more (travel/used). I have to say thanks to @Forty4 for making this available.

I highly suggest borrowing this set, including the higher end options.

Below is the table I started putting together for what came in the package I received. It may not be perfectly accurate, but it helped me to categorize and compare.

Hey, new to the forum and to poker. Currnetly have a 1000 pc dice chip set for home cash games and looking to upgrade! I think your sample set would be fantastic to try out. I’ll shoot you a PM.

I've never really paid mind to the types of chips I play with at the local cardrooms or in Vegas but now that I've been looking for about a year and recently we got a game going at a family member's house I've been paying more attention. One local room uses Paulson's for the 25 and hundreds and a custom mold for their ones and fives and I have to say I much prefer the custom mold but I have no idea the material. I like the not so sharp edges and sound they make better

The other casino close to me uses Paulson's for everything and their fives are very worn and easier to shuffle and what not then the sharp Paulson that the other Casino has but will never play with them enough to wear them like that unless the China clay wear a lot lot lot lot faster

For some reason I feel like I'm going to like the Ceramics a lot more but before I sink any real money into it I thought I was going to order the samples which is why I'm actually stoked that forty4 came up with this thing right as I'm getting ready to make my order.

I have a cash and tourney set of Milano that have grown to be >1000 chips. They absolutely positively MUST be oiled or they are chalky and sticky and harder to shuffle. Once they get in play for a little while they smooth out nicely and become much more of a joy to shuffle.

I’m busy lately taking the 50¢ chips like the ones in this sample set and turning them into custom 5¢ chips with labels from Gear. One nifty thing about Milanos is the labels come off easy with a razor blade and magic eraser. I can reply with pics if you’d like. Overall they’re a good bargain chip, IMO. No one I play with is picky about chips, just me.

Do I only have to pay for shipping to rent this? I read the first post but I'm not sure about the abbreviations used.

Yes. Essentially you pay shipping both ways as the deposit is refunded. But way cheaper than buying sample sets trying to figure out what you like.

I love this idea, and even after buying my first 3 sets or so would find this useful. Heading to a meetup first week of June, but if I don’t see/feel enough to give me an idea of what I want moving forward, I’ll definitely reach out!

I’ll bring it with me

Hey guys,

Been playing poker for years and just started hosting my own bi monthly game now that I have my own house so I'm looking to upgrade from the well known dice chips and I'm trying to figure out what to get as my first real set of chips as a Father's day present. This sample pack seems like a perfect place to start. Not trying to spend a ton so I was looking at around the .35 cent or lower chips. How do you know the availability of the sample pack and how can I get in on this glorious thing you have created?

PM me. I can probably send it out next Saturday (7th) before leaving Detroit. Don’t think you’ll have enough time to enjoy and get back to me before I leave next Thursday.

Long time player here, but starting up a regular home game. I know most players that show up won't care, but I've always been a fan of different chips. I prefer to play deep stack tournaments so I have a feeling this is going to get expensive haha. This is a great idea. PM sent @Forty4

I know it's been said in here over and over, but +1 for highly recommending samples before making a purchase. Granted the set I was considering most ending up being the winner for me, but I was definitely surprised by even some of the cheapest offerings. Thanks again @Forty4 for putting this together.

I've never played with the old school faux clays - do the unicorns in this sample set have the same feel as the faux clay?
