I just wanted to thank all the contributors to this thread. I bought the brown Barrington last year used for $100 from offer up and the felt and foam were terrible from day one and have only gotten worse. After our monthly neighborhood game last weekend, I decided I would not play another hand on that crappy loose surface. Searching for replacement techniques led me to this forum and thread which I am now registered.

I spent the day reading everything and ordering. I have midnight blue suited speed cloth and new Volara foam coming from TPS along with the deeper cupholders from Amazon. I tore the table apart this evening and will get it all done once the purchases show up.

If I am able to post pictures when done, I will but just wanted to say what a great help you all have been with your guides, photos, and links in this thread!

Welcome - this is exactly how I got started here as well. Good luck with finishing the table.

I’ve never owned a folding table, but I have certainly played on them. The seam down the middle tilts me, and as these tables age often becomes a point where cards stick.

If I did have one, I would probably make a roll-up insert that fit snugly within the table’s interior dimensions (i.e, one piece from rail-to-rail).

Since the table is already padded, this could just be speedcloth or felt adhered to a thin piece of foam. That way you bridge the seam, without making the rail too much more shallow.

Anyone done this?

This is the easy, no fuss solution. A fitted mat.

But being able to fold the table is essential if you need it to be portable. I love having the topper to get rid of the fold, and in a pinch I can use the toppers alone on another table if I don't bring the whole table.

I've played many games on a folded table. (Pit Boss brand). The fold in the middle is just a cosmetic thing really. We have never had a card get stopped from that seam. But yet, no seam > than having a seam. I personally must have my table be portable. The topper is a nice option.

that largely defeats the purpose of buying a folding table. i need to be able to fit mine in a closet when not in use.

the seam is obviously not cosmetically ideal, but it has never been a problem functionally for me.

ok, it seems my games are back... so that means i should probably make some barrington upgrades ive been putting off. i already have new felt from @T_Chan and have the rubber to replace the mat. here are my questions ive probably asked before.

• replacing the rubber mat, what am i using for glue?
• when i replaced the felt last time, it seemed screwing the rails back in some of the wood was holes got too big. I read that its best to use plastic wood to fix this?
• any general tips installing felt from @T_Chan ?
• its been some years since I did this, so not sure if people have any addition tips/tricks. especially for the new mat since I havent done that before.

Cut the mat to end at the start of the rail. You can't get the rails back on right if you have the mat under them

Well, most of the stuff I ordered to redo my table showed up and I got the majority of it done today when I got home from work. I did not take any before pictures. You all know what the brown Barrington table looks like.. so imagine that, but a lot worse. The foam and felt were bubbled and wrinkled up. There were cigarette burns and holes in the felt and foam (previous owner).

Here are a few after putting the new foam and speedcloth on it. My piano hinge has not showed up yet, so I was unable to completely finish, and it is sitting on a makeshift workbench right now. But Ill throw a couple up when it is completely done as well. I am VERY happy with how it turned out. I spent quite a bit of time lining up the cloth at the table fold, and got it pretty close. I did not take a picture of how it lines up as it is sitting high in the middle while on the workbench. Once I have the hinge on it and legs back on, I will show how it lines up better. For a $100 table and another $150 in parts, I am pretty happy with the outcome. Thank you again to everyone in this thread that led the way and shared their experiences.

By the way, drilling out the cup holder holes first was a great idea (forget who suggested that) as then I was able to use those with the cup holders in, to line up the lean pads for marking and cutting the foam, and getting everything lined up easily for screwing it all back down.

The piano hinge showed up today, so I came home from work early and finished the table up. Zero complaints about any of this and thanks to everyone's previous work, it went smoothly and quick.




I added some handles as was done previously in this thread and that makes a world of difference moving it around.

I also bought the bag that someone linked previously in this thread and it fits perfectly in it!! I store my table in one of the sheds in my backyard, so having the bag for it is nice, plus it has handles as well, so carrying it around with the bag is nice.

Ignore the dead grass in my backyard. Normally everything is lush and green which makes everything look tropical. Unfortunately, we have no water in SoCal so the grass is sacrificed for now.

Ok everyone, I finally got my table finished. The ESPN version. Added blue speed cloth, replaced the LED’s, deep cup holders. On the ESPN version you don’t need to cut the legs due to the added depth from the lights. I don’t think it came out perfect, but I did it alone and in between a lot of work and travel. Having the right tools and space helps, I did it in an extra living room basically which doubles as my home office and catbox area lol. But all in all I’m super happy with the look. I just order a battery to connect the led’s so I don’t have to plug them in. And my wife or maid (one of them but no one is owning up) accidentally threw out the piano hinge so I have to re order it. Thanks to everyone for all the help in this thread!!!

Last fall, I found a deal on Walmart's website for the brown Barrington for $200 delivered. I bought it with the intention of refitting it with speed cloth and lights before I ever played a hand on it. Life intervened, and I didn't get a chance to even start the project until this spring. A late decision to add lights caused a further delay, as I had to cut and shape plywood to match the rail pieces.

The lights are meant to go behind a TV, but they worked out beautifully. And they're USB powered, so I don't need a power outlet to have a lit game--a phone recharger battery pack is zip-tied underneath the table and will run the lights for hours on its' own.

I'm rather pleased with how it turned out, and can't wait to get some games going on it.

Last October I was looking for a table. Found a barrington that has minor damage for $180 shipped. Slight tear in the vinyl. Was happy with the table, so were the fishes. We were playing cash, but some of us wanted to started playing tourneys once or twice a month. I came HERE to find a tourney set but while looking , I noticed what people were doing to the very table I had.

I decided on a complete overhaul. I had a 3/4” sheet of ply already, wife works in a foam factory so she had access to ANY type of foam imaginable, they scrap 200 tables worth of foam a night, so I got it free. All I had to do was buy the vinyl, the cup holders, the LEDs and the diffusers. I found the diffusers cheap from a place called TAP plastics. I wanted a cool table, I didn’t need it to fold in the first place, so we’re doing away with that. I set out to make it as sick as possible for as cheap as possible. All I did here was raise the original armrest by 3/4” with a 1 riser. I nailed and glued each individual arm rest section to my riser and wrapped it in black whisper. Stuck my leds to the edge of the riser. Routed a grove in the table with router, stuck the diffusers in there and put it together. Tony Chan sent me this sick ass felt, Thankyou brother! This is my very first table ever, I don’t have wood working skills and don’t have a lot of money but if you’re willing to put in the time and labor you can make a really bad ass table for reasonably cheap.

Also huge shoutout to Bill from pplpokertables, this man let me pick his brain along the way and I appreciate it very much, very nice guy. Btw, again, this was my first table, it’s full of flaws I forgot about the measure twice cut once rule. Also I had issues that I didn’t see coming with the table not being perfectly level on both sides due to it being a folder up. So it’s far from perfect but it Still came out sick and my fish are going to looooooove getting fried on this bad boy. The next once WILL be perfect and also 96”, can’t wait, this was fun!

I highly doubt it, at least not anytime soon. I'd say anything under $275 is a pretty good deal on these right now.

Just picked this up on Facebook marketplace for $200, brand new in the box. Kicking myself for not pulling the trigger last Christmas on the brown version for $140. But oh well. Cup holders are the next upgrade.
