Barrington poker table thread (25 Viewers)

All done! Pretty straightforward after some lessons learned on day 1 - most notably to drill the pilot hole from the top, and the hole from the bottom. Big improvement for about $60 including cup holders, hole saw, and pipe cutter.

Does anyone have a use for, or want my old cupholders? Maybe could be used as ashtrays?

I got a lot of help from this forum on redoing mine so I wanted to spread the wealth on those who have the ESPN table.

Tips:
The only difference is there is a layer of plyboard underneath the arm rests, but this affects how you will build it.

Bring the foam padding under the plywood that the front quarter rests on it. this will give it a slight slant upwards which will create a deeper ring affect, and will also allow you to use LED's still.
If you are drilling out cup holders, do not go bigger than 2.75", otherwise you will eat through the entire LED plywood sheet. Because of this extra depth you also do not need to cut the legs of the table unless your cup depth is over 2.5"
You should absolutely replace the foam under the felt. IT IS GARBAGE. since you'll already have most of the work done, spend the extra $30 and get some good foam. I used elmers adhesive spray because I already had it, otherwise i'd use 3M. Elmers worked fine for me.
Replace the LED's. We all know that the ones they originally use are too bright, and the inability to change the color is annoying.

That is what I used and they look great for the price!

Total cost:
$136 for new speed cloth and foam from TPS
$30 set of 10 2.75" diameter, 2.5" depth cup drop ins.
$16 multicolored LED's
$22 for clamps and hole cutter (I already had the rest of the tools)

I am generally a handy guy, but have little woodworking experience. From start to finish it took me about 8 hours.

Do you think the lights could have ben replaced without taking off the arm rest?

Wow, 29 pages. This thread was great. I now have my shopping list. $325 for the table, topper, cup holders, carrying handles and replacement hinge. Not bad considering a brand new one is running about $300 these days.

Finally figured out some carrying handles.

Materials:
2 guitar amp handles: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Leather-St...eg-Vox-Black-Vintage-Style-H1008/382129391886
1 yard of strap material: https://www.dritz.com/quilting-sewi...straps/polypropylene-webbing-belting/28602-1/
2 wood screws

I got the strap material from a local fabric store (JoAnn's).

The handles work great. The table is pretty heavy but with the handles much less awkward to carry and two people can carry it pretty easily. When the table is set up the handles hang underneath but they are really not noticeable.

How are these straps holding up? Anything you would do different?

How have the handles held up??

Just wanted to share the handles I wound up attaching to the table. Makes it way easier to move around and still lay flat when set up. It's actually a replacement amplifier handle, but works great with no modification. Drill two holes and you're golden.

How have these handles held up?

I installed the 2nd ones just recently. Can't speak to how they will hold up but they feel secure on there and if not moving the table around very often should last a long time.

Another thing I did recently was put duct tape around my jumbo cup holders so they wouldn't fall out when in transport. Works like a charm. Those things are in there tight now.

The last thing I'd like to do is install the underneath bracket that runs along the entire table to give it more strength in the middle.

The table has certainly been an easy enough project overall and it should serve me well for a while. The next step is to get to actually play some poker on it on a semi regular basis.

Just wanted to say thank you to this thread. It's been super helpful in my Barrington purchase as well as refurbish.

Where it started...

PXL_20230623_165645631.jpg

Phase 1.... New speed cloth, drilled out new same diameter deeper cup holders.

Phase 2... New vinyl and larger diameter cup holders.

Phase 3 maybe will be to raise side the rail and add LED lighting.

Not sure I'm gonna do it yet.

Thank you all for your shares of builds instructions etc.

It's super appreciated.

Very nice! Did you put the new vinyl over the existing? Or remove and then put on?

The topper:
Because the topper just sits on top of the factory felt, it's going to have a little give if you press hard enough. Given the poor quality of the original barrington felt, even that one bunches up when you press and drag. I would think that the only alternative around that is to get a different playing surface (like SSC) that you could staple down so that there's no give.

The cupholders:
I knew I wanted to replace the factory crappy cupholders. So I ended up purchasing two sizes:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0789HG6NW?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share&tag=pokchifor0d-20
AND
https://www.amazon.com/YH-Poker-Stainless-Steel-Holders/dp/B075R88TGN/ref=sr_1_15?crid=QAUSH3M829AF&keywords=yuanhe+cup+holders&qid=1682690622&sprefix=yuanhe+cup+holder,aps,99&sr=8-15&th=1

I ended up installing the standard sized ones instead of the jumbo ones because I felt like the jumbos took up too much space in the rail. If you go with the standard cupholders, use a 2-3/4 inch hole saw and the fit will be perfect. No need for glue. And the table will fold up with no issues with the height of those cupholders. Depending on which Barrington you purchased, you may need to cut the off a small portion of the legs so that four of the cupholders fit properly.
Just a heads-up for those of you following this thread. The standard 2-3/4 is just wide enough for a beer bottle, pint can and a tom collins glass. It will not fit an old fashioned/rocks glass.

Did you change the padding on the rail or on the table or re-use what was there?
Just re-used what was there... The thicker vinyl.. (almost 3x thicker I think) makes the rail more curved rather than square that it used to be.

Correct... I used deeper original size ones at first... Then used these 3.5 inch diameter ones in my phase 2.

Last fall, I found a deal on Walmart's website for the brown Barrington for $200 delivered. I bought it with the intention of refitting it with speed cloth and lights before I ever played a hand on it. Life intervened, and I didn't get a chance to even start the project until this spring. A late decision to add lights caused a further delay, as I had to cut and shape plywood to match the rail pieces.

The lights are meant to go behind a TV, but they worked out beautifully. And they're USB powered, so I don't need a power outlet to have a lit game--a phone recharger battery pack is zip-tied underneath the table and will run the lights for hours on its' own.

I'm rather pleased with how it turned out, and can't wait to get some games going on it.

Hey there... quick question. When you raised the rail what did you do to hide the plywood look from the outside... Just black paint?
