Apple apologists who are pointing to Apples trailblazing efforts with the CD ROM in the MacBook Air are overlooking several things:
- CD ROM was already on the decline when Apple made the decision. Not the case with the 3.5 mm Jack.
- There were many, easier, open alternatives to CD ROM at the time. You are now left with a closed system or Bluetooth.
- The 3.5 mm jack has been around since the 60's and is without a doubt the most widely adopted personal electronic standard.
