Anyone move back to an iPhone 5s (or SE) after using a 6 or 6+? (1 Viewer)

There was no plan to make the 7 thinner, but the next gen phone will have a totally redesigned case, and the plan is to make it thinner. Apple was ready to remove the headphone jack now, though, and even though they didn't make the phone thinner, they gained that space (not an insignificant percentage of the total volume) for other things, such as an additional speaker and more battery.

Glad!

Eat my buttery nuts and give me a headphone jack.

EDIT: Also is the camera still not flush with the body? I use a case 99% of the time, so okay, but that seems like a dumb design to stick with.

And dual cameras. And (most importantly to me) finally made the phone water-resistant.

So will one be able to charge their phone and simultaneously listen to music via the adapter, say while playing long hours of poker? I'm assuming the answer is NO, that level of efficiency won't be available until the 13 model.

Thanks, Apple. I already have enough pissed off home game players.

That I will give them. I'm digging the water resistance. I wanna go Lil' Wayne on my iPhone.

It's a trade off. The larger camera sensor (which in turn gives you higher quality photos) requires greater distance from lens to sensor surface. So you either make the lens flush with the body and compromise image quality or you allow a slightly bump to maximize image quality (and the ability to capture better low light images).

Jack, come to the dark side, Galaxy 7 Edge. We already have all these features, except the critical ability to play POFP on your phone.

If I leave Apple I'm going Nexus, but I really doubt I'm leaving Apple.

The problem with Androids is all of the extraneous crap that the carriers put on the phones. Sure, you can root it, but now you're susceptible to a growing number of malware attacks on the Android platform.

I am 100% convinced that Apple is doing this (along with their "certified" accessory program) to get deeper into the accessory market as a revenue source. Their partnership with Beats by Dre was a precursor to this. I think they come out with an absolutely killer Bluetooth headphone in the next 6-8 months.

As far as size goes, I have large palms but stubby fingers and I'm still able to get around my 6S. The 6+ is far too large for me though. I probably won't look at upgrading to the 7 and will wait to see what Apple releases this time next year, but I gotta say, there is one feature on Android devices that is unbelievably compelling - an inability to play "Pineapple!" and lose money to my friends.

My understanding is that Nexus devices shipped without all that garbage on them. True?

Apple continues to be ahead of the pack, eliminating features that people still use.

It seems to me that replacing a built-in jack with a dongle is a step backwards. But what do I know? -- I'm an android and PC fan.

Lightning based headphones should provide better sound quality as they are completely digital. The 3.5 mm jack was a digital to analog converter so sound quality was likely diminished in the conversion. Using the dongle should provide sound quality equivalent to the 3.5 mm jack.

They have very minimal bloatware on them. Never understand how Apple can get away with that and the other big player in phones Samsung cant... Baffles me. The other big benefit to Nexus devices is they are first to get the latest Android OS. Usually months before other devices.

Just to expand on my previous post - Apple has done a compelling job hooking customers in with offering apps and (more significantly) music and iBooks. Without an iOS device you lose your license to this media - it's not like you can just hop over to an Android and re-download it for free. They've got a great framework in place for retaining customers but so does Google...

So now it's about market penetration and customer saturation, and at least in North America, they're pretty well saturated. Also, it's difficult to win over Google customers (or vice-versa).

What's the only play left to them that has alot of revenue possibility? It's the accessories. At least part of this is motivated by an opportunity Apple is seeing on the accessory front. Can you imagine what a high-quality Bluetooth Apple-branded headphone will take to produce and then what they'd subsequently charge. Myinga!!

...for starters, up to 5 hours of listening time per charge and 15 minutes of charging gives you 3 hours. Jack's long poker sessions are going to be very frustrating now :-)

As has been rumored all year, the iPhone 7 line does not have a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. In its place is a second speaker, giving the phone stereo sound, and Apple has developed a set of EarPods with a Lightning connector that will be included with the phone. Additionally, an adapter comes in the box so you can still use 3.5mm headphones with the device.

Now that you put it that way... O, wait, no, I can't listen to music while charging my phone. With a dongle, the capability might as well not exist, because you are going to lose it, misplace it, or break it when you need it most. Also, all lightning cables have unique ids encoded in the cable. If a Chinese OEM decides to not pay the Apple tax and copies existing IDs, Apple will just disable all of the devices in an IOS update.

This dongle is free. How much for the next one? Who is allowed to make them?

How is it that other manufacturers can achieve water resistance with a 3.5 mm jack?

I thought apple learned their lesson about proprietary connectors with the adb port. This apple licensing nonsense compared to mini usb is annoying.

So the phone comes with the following.
1. Ear pods with lightning connector
2. lightning cable and power adapter.
3. iPhone
4. lightning to 3.5 mm adapter.

So it comes with earphones and a dongle for an different pair of headphones.

I just need to decide between the 7 or 7plus and what color. I am leaning towards the 128 GB 7plus in black or silver.

Gloss Black or Shiny Black?

To bad my son does not get a discount on iPhones. I am under his account and we get everything 50% off. With 6 iPhones and 30 gigs under $200 works for me!!!

I don't think the back color matters as much as the front color since I will likely have a case covering the back. It gets down to if I want the front to be white or black, and I will need to see them in person before I make a final decision.

Lots of paid Apple shills writing articles to tell us how bone headed we are for not embracing this move.

Author actually claims that Bluetooth is higher quality than analog jack.
