I understand that when a casino is producing chips, especially tournament chips, that 0.10 or 0.20 more per chip adds up, but I can't say that I can excuse a major casino for not aligning edge spots on faux edge spots. If you don't want to align the edges then don't make them look anything like edge spots!

From Brad Owen's recent videos.

I noticed that too when I saw his video. I actually had to do a double take because I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me that a real casino would pull such an amateur move.

One of my long-standing issues with ceramics has always been the edge spot alignment. And although you can pay for it, it typically still doesn't come out looking right. So the best thing to do is to go for edge spot that don't look like edge spots.

You have to wonder if this kind of thing is just a mistake due to the person ordering it having no clue what they're doing.

We care a lot more about chip aesthetics, casinos care a lot more about cost.

That's it in a nutshell.
Oh I completely agree. In fact, I think I said in a previous thread that casinos making chips ugly were only make us want ugly chips eventually.

But I think my point here was that it doesn't cost them any extra time or effort to make an edge spot that doesn't need alignment. Think about chips from BR Pro like the DDLMs.

This is why you shouldn't go out of your way to design ceramics to look exactly like a complicated clay pattern, because it won't always pull it off well, and it is too uniform so it looks off.

Play to its strengths with full face art and rolling edge art that doesn't rely on a wraparound. Stacking x number of chips to make a graphic when viewed from the side is something cool that's not done often enough.

And especially doesn't help in this example that they went for a 4V edge spot. If you're going to mimic a clay chip, why would you do a 4V?

At least they're nowhere near as bad as the new Bike chips, going from some gorgeous Cali Paulsons and BJs to unaligned ugly ceramics... on chips with up to $5k face value! Not only are they hideous, but that's just begging for security issues.

I’m not anti-cerami, but those are painfully awful. I didn’t realize they switched, Kyle. When did that happen??

I wanna say last spring sometime, ParkWest bought out the Casino and replaced the chips, but didn't fully make them obsolete or something. I love the old Paulson chips so much, would love to get ahold of em.
