50th Birthday Present to Me . . . Mixed THC Set Advice (1 Viewer)

My 50th is rapidly approaching later this year. Other than eligibility for the Seniors' Event at the WSOP next year, I don't see any benefit to this. Frankly, turning 50 is kind of depressing. But enough of that.

My wife has no clue what to get me, given that my hobbies are all poker-related and she has zero interest in poker. So I suggested to her that I could buy a new set of chips. Her first response was "what are you going to do with a third set of chips?", but that was quickly followed by "if that will make you happy, that's great." I am taking her at her word and working on a new set that will make me happy.

I've seen some mixed THC sets on here that I think are awesome and I would like to put one together. I'm looking for advice from the many people on PCF that are much more knowledgable about these chips than I am. I would like to create roughly the following breakdown to use in my PLO mixed cash game . . . 2-3 racks of $1s, 3-4 racks of $5s, 1-2 racks of $25s, and 1 rack of $100s.

I have started my set by harvesting Paris $1s last week in Vegas. They are in excellent to mint condition, and I should be able to complete the harvesting on my next Vegas trip over Labor Day weekend. I am looking for other chips to pair with those that would be obtainable in excellent to mint condition. My initial thoughts are below (in order of current preference), and I am pretty much open to anything that will look good, as long as the chips can be located in similar condition. I don't want to try to go after chips that rarely come up for sale or are extremely difficult to obtain.

Happy upcoming birthday! I'm doing a 50th birthday project, too, but it's a collection of Nevada $1s. I would have thought you might want to do something custom for your 50th, maybe from CPC?

I'm sorry to hear that. I turned 50 this year and I'm loving it. Maybe you need to party it up more? Hit a poker meet up? gamble it up with some like minded hobbyists!

Was also going to suggest cpc. Working on a cash set from them for my upcoming 50th... three years from now.

I was thinking maybe custom, but creativity has never been my strong suit. Plus, I like the idea of a mixed set and being able to sell and buy for a different mix in the future.

Of the combos/favorites you have listed, I like either of these two the best:

$5 - PCA Secondary, $25 - Aztar MO Secondary, $100 - Eddie's Fabulous (IMHO best overall chips without repeating a casino twice which tweaks me)

or

$5 - Casablanca (red 1/8" spots), $25-Aztar MO Secondary, $100-PCA Secondary (all 1/8 spots)

Thanks for the input @Irish. Those Golden Eagle’s paired with the Paris look sweet, although I do wonder about dirty stacks, etc. given the amount of blue in the Eagles. I think the PCA $5 is calling me ... it’s pricey but obtainable. And maybe I’ll pick a couple of hundos based on what comes up for sale. Again, I like the PCAs, but I can see your point about repeating in a mixed set.

Your set, your rules dude There's not a bad chip in the PCA secondary lineup, but "my" rules/OCD would have me tweaking with two chips from the same casino. But I'm fairly nuts, so YMMV.

I agree that stacked it looks nice, but that Deep Blue would definitely cause dirty stacks.

I love a mixed set! Many people go House Mold too, so that's a suggestion, or location based - NV, Las Vegas, Boat, etc.
Can't go wrong with building it around a Paris $1 though!

Would love that, but it seems based on my limited experience that Cali colors are in such high demand it would be very difficult (not to mention very expensive) to put a playable set together.
