I tried digging through some threads, but I got lazy. My first question is in regard to cleaning white chips. Is there some magical way to get white back to looking new(-ish)?

The second question is about over-labeling. Is it fairly easy to over-label chips, specifically brand new Tigers, and not end up with spinners?

Really easy. If you align things correctly and the label is just the right size you shouldn't end up with any spinners. I did two racks of Paris $1s for someone and had no problems. I'm guessing that Tigers will be the same thing.

New/sharp THC chips have inlay grooves that are deep enough. Casino used typically have much shallower grooves.

Overlabels depend on the thickness of the sticker/label. Stickers designed to be overlabels (thinner) work better. Stickers designed to be inlay replacements after removal are thicker and if used as overlabels are much more likely to create above the rim thickness leading to spinners.

Assuming we’re talking about clay chips (and my experience is all with Paulsons) the best thing I’ve found for whitening whites is soaking them in oxi-clean.
The problem is the oxiclean will fade colors, so if your white chips have edge spots, you need to be really careful with your oxi concentrations and soak times so you get an acceptable amount of fading. And personally I wouldn’t risk it, unless you’re cleaning Rios (gray edge spots.)

If they are white paulson chips, I find that sodium metasilicate sold under the brand name TSP at home deport works amazing. A teaspoon or so in a tub of warm water and a simple scrub with toothbrush and you’re done. Hooker juice GONE.

Do not use TSP on CPC chips. It will melt them.

Ok, so this is all hypothetical, as I haven't put my Tigers into play yet. I've just been thinking about the sec. $100 getting all grimey. So the magic eraser on that should be nothing to worry about?

Usually home game grime is just dawn and a toothbrush. Actual hooker juice takes a lot of play to achieve. I’ve only ever had to use magic eraser on casino used chips. All regular home game play grime comes off easily with less abrasive methods. Magic Eraser scrapes off a layer and you can see the color transfer on the eraser afterwards.

Example of a rack I just cleaned last weekend with oxyclean and magic eraser. The Condado Beach grime came off easily with Magic Eraser but absolutely not with a toothbrush and Dawn. I have to imagine you’re not going to reach that level of juice from home play ever.

So I had purchased a rack of HSI 1s that were mint, and just using a few them in a shuffle stack for a couple weeks discolored the edge. I tried using dawn on them and couldn't get them to look like other 95 that remained untouched.

TSP (or TSP substitute) will always be my go-to if I have a large quantity of casino filthy chips. It works wonders, but it leaves the chips dry as hell. If you’re an oiler, no big deal. But I hate oiling chips, so it’s a consideration.

Might be color transfer. Not sure which chips those are, but if they have dark colored edge spots and you don’t work as a mechanic, I bet it’s color transfer, not filth.

So is there anyway to remove color transfer from edges?
I think tsp does a good job of that, but I don’t remember. Magic eraser should do fine too. Magic eraser is mostly just an abrasive, so it should scrape the color off?
The bitch of it is that everybody tells you how great the magic erasers work, but nobody tells you what a pain in the butt it is to clean chip edges with magic erasers.

The original magic eraser is only an abrasive. It's basically the foam version of high grit sandpaper. Magic eraser is the brand name, the generic name is called "melamine foam". Really great for removing hard water lines from aquariums, among other things.

You will see the outlines of the Tiger hotstamp underneath your overlabel, and it will look bad.

Hotstamps should be milled to create a flat surface before applying labels.

They aren't hotstamps. Going to relabel my Aquas. I'm just on the fence of trying to save money and do a overlabel vs paying the premium for what sounds like a premium product.

There should be enough recess depth to put an UN-laminated label on top of a Tiger chip label.

A laminated label placed over top has a very high probability of creating spinners and making stacks unstable.

If you ever decide to try and remove the overlabel in the future, about 5-10% of the time you will probably rip off the protective laminate from the original inlay, and permanently damage the chip.

The best results always come from careful removal of the original inlay and replacing with your aftermarket laminated sticker. Textured and smooth laminates are great for different applications.

Good timing, I was just talking to Gear via pm regarding this. Asking anyone who has relabeled any of their TP with laminated labels...how do they look sitting next to originals?

I forget if what @Gear gave me was laminated or not.

On the other denom end of the same set is “glossy” from @dickthebaker

And just because here’s an example of overlabels from Sticker Mule. Unlaminated thin. No spinners.

Gear’s labels are the best.

That set is fantastic. I'm assuming those are all over-labeled?
No. Only the TP $25 and $0.50 are inlay replaced. The $1, $5, and $100 are original. The pic should demonstrate how close it is to the original. The Hooters are all overlabeled. In the last pic the original chips are on the left. The relabeled ones are on the right for comparison.

Oh , sorry...I meant the chips that are relabeled. Are they a complete replacement, or over-labeled?
