$1000 for an entire set up - how would you budget? (4 Viewers)

If you are a handy kind of guy and have tools, I'd skip the Barrington and DIY you own table. You'll end up with a much nicer table for not much more money. Step one for me when I start a new table build is to find a used banquet table that has good folding legs for cheap, and go from there.

PCFers ...... You should all be ashamed of yourselves. This guy is writing up budget and budget including all of the things he plans on buying and no one told him that he forgot to budget in the HOT DOG ROLLER!?!?! What went wrong here?
1. You're not wrong.
2. I thought of this but in his original OP he mentioned "excluding food & drink" so I figured "the roller" was part of a different budget!

Hot dog roller can be diverted to another category as a kitchen appliance and does not have to be relegated to 'poker room specific' funding.

A custom table and chairs can equally be placed under 'household furnishings'. Even an ultrasonic cleaner can be safely categorized as 'tools - garage' or 'home maintenance'.

Therefore, you really have $1000 to spend on your chips and cards.

1. Poker Table - $200
2. Chairs - $20 x 10
3. Side Table - $25 x 2
4. Cards - $30 x 2

That’s cover the basic equipment setup beside chips.

For chips, your best option is a nice customised ceramic or a small used Paulson set with the remaining $500 budget

If we are talking about poker chips collection budget long term wise, then you will need to add another zero minimum to the budget
What might the small used Paulson set look like?

That's your budget now. What's your continuing budget? Plan this out long term. Will you have $1000 to spend each year? Is it $1000 now and $500 next year? But one really nice item and then plan to upgrade as you go.

I'd start with a really notice table. Players will notice that first and really appreciate it. If it's single table get the minimum set of cheap chips you can find and a setup of nice cards. Get some cheap chairs. Hold on to any extra if you have some.

Now start planning your dream chip set. Plan the type (ceramic or clay), the design, the colors etc. Next budget point get the super comfy chairs. Now the players will be like "Great chairs! Wow!" Again, hold on to any extra.

By now you should have your chips figured out. Round three you're putting all you can into getting your dream set or as close as possible.

So in 3 years you've built your ideal man cave.
I hear you, but the budget will likely stay as it is. I already look at myself funny in the mirror when I’m contemplating a $350 set of chips when there’s a perfectly fine one on Amazon for $125 that comes with a case.

I know this is pokerchipforum.com but a table, chairs and cards are more important to a comfortable game. Second draft looks good.

 :ROFLMAO: I am sorry my friends.

Sincerely, I would love to use great chips, but my mind can’t wrap around the idea of using $5000 chips for a $10-$20 buyin game.

You can get a nice set of BRPros for way less than that. CPCs would be well under 2 grand also if you plan them out right.

Someone should start a prop bet spreadsheet so we can start tracking how the degeneration manifests with the newcomers. Maybe save a couple of their "cute" quotes like how "I could never see me spending more that a couple hundred dollars on a set of chips," kind of like an album of baby pictures.

I personally used my budget for a nice DIY table with a custom cloth, then purchased 8 nice comfy dining room in a church yard sale for $125.00.
My 400 chips are from a group buy on here for $0.34 per chip, which compliment my dedicated poker room theme. Unfortunately most players rarely care about the cost or how good the chips look. They just want to play poker. Good 100% plastic cards are important.
I also have casino style chips as well, but I won't use them at my home game. Honestly, the guys would use colored shirt buttons just to play poker.
I have a mini bar fridge built into the wall so it takes up less footprint in the poker room. The back of the fridge is in the maintenance room adjacent to the poker room. I have a bar set up, and all drinks and a few light snacks are always on the house.

Semi Custom from @BR Pro Poker .....

I spend around $800 on this but in all reality you need about half of what I got. Head on over to www.brpropoker.com and see if they have something you like.

After that head on over to Amazon for this

I came here a few months ago looking for ideas to spend around $500 on everything I’d need to start hosting. Roughly $3000 in and still going…. ‍ :ROFLMAO:
You stumbled upon the rabbit hole early in the game. The wallet got lighter, so less of a drag on the body.

Look, if that's what suits your group, then by all means, go for it. If you have $1k to spend on everything, spending $900 on a set of chips sitting around a slab of plywood on milk crates makes zero sense.

Comfort first, luxury second.

You have a hard limit of $1000 and an empty 15’ x 15’ room for poker (9 players max). Excluding food and drink, what do you buy to fill it?

Here’s my first draft:

  1. $200 Barrington table
  2. $400 on chairs
  3. $400 on chips
Edit: second draft:

  1. $200 Barrington
  2. $100 topper
  3. $300 chairs
  4. $350 chips
  5. $50 cards (several decks)

Here is how I would handle it m I would same up another 1k. Invest in chairs, then chips, then either a table or a topper

Edit: third draft

  1. $200 Barrington
  2. $500 chairs
  3. $250 chips (cards mold)
  4. $50 cards

Acquired:
LED Barrington $200; played on it, no plans to change it/get a topper at the moment
Chips $350; got a larger than I needed set that’s “future proof”
C&G cards $20

Remaining budget: $430 for chairs, though not sure if it’s really needed.

Pretty happy with everything so far.
