So was the variation legit or was it "in your head"? I've looked at all my setups of every card and my mind tricks me. Is that the case here?

Personally, with the last 'bad' batch, i thought i could tell the difference, but then i couldn't.

I'm thinking these will be fine. I had reservations about using the shade of red picked only because that may be a factor for the 'illusion' if thats what it is.

As a host who couldn't use the last decks I have to say this sentence concerns me.

"3) The red decks show some variation in color IF you are looking for it. BUT... the color variance is very subtle, difficult to see, and impossible to pick out or track certain cards."

Can we see some pics please?

Thanks

I understand the concerns given my review... and I wanted my review to be honest and fair.

That said, the variations really can only be seen in bright light, and only if you are really focused and are LOOKING for variations. Even then, you have to find a "darker" shaded card and have it next to a "lighter" shaded card before you are able to say, "oh yea - I see the difference now."

Even going through those exercises, we had a couple of players who were unable to see any noticeable difference whatsoever... @One Eyed Dollar and @kenny being two of the guys who didn't see any issues at all come to mind.

In play, under normal conditions, I think it would be impossible to pinpoint a card in play anywhere on the table. I truly believe that these decks are ready to go and be put in play!

However, I will be happy to take some hires pics for folks to decide for themselves.

Thank you. Please post pictures.

If put the original in play, no one can honestly tell a difference .

@desjgn what do you think about the cards?

Thank you @justsomedude for the honest review as well as several of PCF members being there to test the decks.

I struggled to see any variation personally when I received the setup samples that I did. I posted an update on Kickstarter about it as well. I had other graphic designers who saw the first batch and looked at the second but couldn't see any variation in these. I wasn't satisfied with just that group of opinions and needed to have them in play by backers to solidify my findings. I think people will be pleased with these replacement decks.

I agree.

I think the problem was that everyone - when doing the test - was able to pinpoint the same one or two cards. That is not possible with the new run. At all.
Still waiting for pictures  :whistling::ROFL: :ROFLMAO:

@desjgn - how are we going to handle reshipment? I purchased 30 decks and sold at least 10 - will you reship to those, or do we need to figure that out on a 1 on 1?

I have a list of people i sent decks to as well.
Would it be better for me to send a PM with those peoples address and amount of decks for shipping directly?

Thank you for the reminder. I think to just simplify things, I will ship replacements to those additional PCF members you sold to from the first production run. Please compile it and if they can provide you an email address too, I can give them tracking when I ship them out. I will request this info when I am ready to ship the replacement decks. Thank you.

Additional images. Granted not the best from what I take from my phone with varied lighting/shadows, but some closeups nonetheless.

Here they are!

I fanned out two rows on a table, turned off all the interior lights, and snapped pics with my camera and flash. This is pretty much a worst-case scenario (direct flash / no diffusion), that should make any change in color more noticable. I did not do any contrast adjustments in post... I just imported them, and exported them as JPGs...

Links to the full resolution images are below each image, if you are interested.

Below are the five "worst case" cards I could find. From left to right the backs are "dark, light, darker, light-ish, dark, light". I must repeat, it was pretty difficult for me to find these cards; I had to hold them in bright light, and really LOOK for differences. Just fanning through, I think it would be impossible for some one to just spot the variance...

For comparison, here is a photo of the original print run (photo by @One Eyed Dollar) - and I don't think we are even close to this type of situation...

In fairness to @desjgn --

I just did a quick test with my new Faded Spade bridge sized red backs, and lo and behold, their backs show shade variations! I'm quickly realizing that red is just a damn difficult color to print consistently.

One card here is noticeably darker than the rest; can you spot it? On the flip side, one card is also a bit lighter, while three are very close in tone.

I agree - I think Red just sucks.

I appreciate the sentiment, but I hold the manufacturers responsible any time a color is varied, red or otherwise. They do have hopefully professional people making sure that when things go to press that the inks are evenly and equally distributed on the material so that colors are kept consistent. It is tricky, but good pressmen take pride in their work to make sure a product is done right and they and the company should rectify with the customer immediately if there is an issue — especially when it is clearly visible.

As a former pressman, I echo this statement 100%

Just to confirm: you’re still planning on collecting contact info for people we sold decks to so you can ship them directly?

According to the quoted post, he plans to ship directly to those who bought from us. Just want to make sure I didn’t miss the collection of contact info, and that everyone who did sell is prepared to get that info over for when he is ready to package up shipments.

Correct. Here is an example: if you ordered the king’s reward of 30 sets and sold 10 sets to other PCF members then you will receive 20 sets and the rest will be shipped to your buyers. As you compile your list, please include how many sets your buyers should receive, shipping details, and an email address for tracking info and pm me. All info is confidential with me.
