So I bought a set of Paulson casino de isthmus chips (the newer ones) back in like 2006. I mainly bought them cause they looked cool and as a sort of trophy after quitting online poker. I played a few casual home games here and there but not a whole lot. After that I moved around a lot and the chips were in my parent’s basement for a long time since I didn’t want to ship them overseas. Bottom line is they are in close to perfect condition and now I’ve got them back. The possibility of playing with them in a home game has come up.

I understand Paulson stopped selling to the home market at some point and the chips shot up in value. The problem is now I feel uncomfortable actually playing with them? What if people want to eat while we play? What if someone spills a beer at the table? I’d feel awkward telling people we’re going to play with my fancy ass chips- but no food or drinks allowed. Do you guys worry about this stuff with your Paulsons? Or you pretty much just clean them as needed and don’t worry about it?

@Teggy Sounds like you!

Haha I totally get that feeling though, but at the end of they day, you just need to get over it an play with them. They are pretty solid chips, and hold up well. If they get a little hooker juice on them, its totally normal. (As I say that in a casual way) ...HA! But for real. Just give them a gentle wash, and you'll be fine. Like David O said, play with them!! Enjoy, and welcome to the community.

This is what happened to the last person that asked this question. :ROFLMAO: Seriously though play with them and don't worry 1 sec. about the chips. ENJOY THE SHIT OUT OF THEM....on the felt.

Chips are not an investment. They are to be used and enjoyed.

Typical home game play will not hurt them. Food and beverage contamination is easily washed off. The chips aren't that rare either. Just play with them and don't worry about it. They aren't near as fragile as you think.

Oh boy, here we go again
Seriously :D

OP - Unless you’re splashing pots from 40ft a casual home game once in a while will not affect the appearance or resale value of your chips. There’s easy methods of cleaning that can and will remove all natural oils/liquids/food from the chips so eat and drink away.

Paulson chips are pretty easy to clean in the off chance that they became soiled from occasional use. Just look at the ultrasonic thread for inspiration and confidence.

That said, if the edges wear to the point that they are no longer considered 'mint' that can and probably will adversely affect their value in the market. If resale value is your primary concern, I would suggest acquiring some casino worn chips to use in your game.

You will get many-fold times the enjoyment value from playing with them vs any miniscule loss in monetary value. And if they happen to get dirty or soiled, just clean them..... but that will take a LOT of VERY careless use to even occur in the first place.

Put the in play, and enjoy the chips -- it's why you bought them.

Your reckless thoughts of risking these chips with the soiled fingers of the proletariat are reckless. Pls send these beautiful chips to me for safekeeping. I’ll keep you updated on their safety. Pm incoming for address.

It also depends what the money means to you. If you need the money then sell them and play with some cheaper chips so you are not stressed out. People's replies are correct in that you can play with them for 10 years and probably sell them later without greatly diminishing their value.

However, if it really stresses you out then just buy cheap chips and play with those.

CDI chips are not THAT rare or expensive so if you like them then I would just play with them. You will be surprised how bad some of the cheaper options sound and feel once you have used Paulsons.

Holy crap this forum is active lol. Alright guys I’ll use them and come back here to find out how to get the pizza sauce out. I’m more worried about food stains than actually wearing out the edges since I doubt I’ll be playing with them *that* much.

they are meant to be played with and you can always oil them up to keep them fresh. some people even prefer the feel after being well handled

My life goal is to play enough home games to wear the edges down on my mint chips to Casino worn condition. That means I got a ton of play and a ton of enjoyment out of my chips = max ROI.

THIS.......................... I don't understand having such awesome sets and not putting them into play. Looking at you @Seeking Alpha Social Club :)
LOL!! That's why multiple sets are necessary. To help me fight the urge to shuffle the "collector" chips.

HOWEVER!! If somebody wants to sell may a used/played set of Deadwoods, I will shuffle the shit out of em. :ROFLMAO:

Should Porsches and Ferraris be driven on racetracks or should they -even there- be towed on trailers to prevent mileage from being recorded?
Should Jeeps ever be driven off-tarmac? What about possible scratches?
Should boobs be squeezed?
Should women ever get pregnant?
Should we die totally healthy?
:)

Until you use your non cash value, fantasy, round discs, you won't be considered a real scrub donkey. Without being a real scrub donkey you won't have opportunities to win free giveaways! :p welcome to PCF!

Play with em or sell them to someone who will.

You’ll be fine either way. Welcome to the forum.

For what it’s worth, we have a standing “no greasy food” rule at our games. Anything greasier than a potato chip is verboten.

Although that’s to save my friends hand-built table, not my China clay chips.

EDIT: usually a problem solved by ordering a sub tray.

Just make sure to have the players dry their hands after pizza! Lol

I've also banned scratch lotto tickets, since once they get on the table, they will get on the cards, then that deck is done....
