so we have the movies version of this thread obviously, but i think i'm typically more surprised by how bad some music is that i used to like. also i think any debates here will be more clearly decided than in the movie thread.

it is really difficult to embarrass me and almost impossible for me to feel embarrassed of my taste in music/movies/whatever, but the closest i've recently come is hearing Sublime and realizing how god awful they are and remembering how much i absolutely jammed the 40 oz. to freedom album back in the day.

this was among my favorites of their songs and it is so derivative in the most tone deaf, naive ways that it's difficult even to listen to in this context:

and this...just awful. i was reminded of this garbage when i recently saw a track on spotify with the artist listed as "santana feat. gavin rossdale". i did a quadruple take. ugh:

i'm sure i'll think of more if this thread takes off.

Bily Joel, because Butler told me it was bad. Also Bon Jovi.

Hey! I like Sex and Candy -- the song, too.

Basically, I like anything with a guitar part simple enough for me to play.

i've heard from people who have good taste in music that harvey danger has a lot of solid material outside this one hit. i've never really investigated since i find this song so grating, but maybe one day i will give it a shot.

This will be interesting to see how bad my taste in music is.

generic hair metal (yes, I'm a child of the 80's)

Same could go for me and the 90's grunge.

One of my first thoughts was Ugly Kid Joe. But their primary reason for even being liked in the first place was do to a great Harry Chapin cover. Well, I guess the Harry Chapin song is great, not so sure the cover was great. Also, note I was a young kid, well not that young but not in HS, influenced by MTV.

You guys are crazy by the way a lot of those songs still hold up. Agreed with the sublime though. Music, like many things in life, is cyclical. It's like in the eighties when everyone thought seventies songs sucked, and now everyone loves music from the seventies again (disco excepted).

Ice T - Power album...just died laughing with some friends while we reminisced.

Platinum Blonde - too embarrassed to reminisce with friends about.

Music is a tough one. It's hard to separate the nostalgia that goes along with it. I saw a lot of live music my senior year of high school up until about 27-28 when I started to slow down going to concerts. Saw a lot of bands that I thought were terrible on the radio/CD but tore it up live. Of course saw a lot of the flip side of that as well. As for some of the stuff mentioned so far in this thread...

40 Oz to Freedom - some of the songs still strike the nostalgia chord, but the album suffers from poor production and makes the bad songs even worse IMO...the self titled is much better though a little over produced

Glycerine - awful and self indulgent to the max...Sixteen Stone was still a good album though IMO

Sex and Candy - just one of many songs that came out around that time that got a lot of airplay just for being weird - see Flagpole Sitta

Harvey Danger - about 68 years ago (roughly) I went to go see the Mancow's Morning Madhouse Christmas Show at the Star Plaza in Merrillville, IN. It was a free show, you just had to wait in line and hope you got in. Harvey Danger was one of the acts scheduled to play. I was excited to see a song that wasn't Flagpole Sitta so I could judge whether or not they were worth seeking out (didn't have that newfangled youtube or google yet). They played one song...Flagpole Sitta. Cheap Trick also played that show...they played two songs.

Ugly Kid Joe - I remember these guys being pretty good as far as musical ability. They never took themselves seriously and neither did anyone else.

I will have to think about and listen to some of the stuff I haven't listened to in a while and see what stands out as bad.
