Ok, as I've mentioned in a couple other posts, i'm in the process of building my dream poker setup. I've got the room/bar under construction, my Chanman table ordered and a couple sets of chips.

My wife told me today that she wants to have a custom set of chips made for me as well.

I'm not new to poker, but i'm definitely a newby when it comes to chips. What recommendations would you give for type/style of chips and where I should order them?

For your chip inlay, you don't want the graphic elements to restrict your usable space. Get ready to toss the lines of the hexagon, and also get rid of the "Food - Drink - Cards" text. Put your numerical denom for the chip (cash denom or tourney denom?) below the word "ASSEMBLY" Increase the size of your "W" crown on the top to take as much advantage of the upper space as possible.

Yup. You can see here that you’re going to need all the room you can get.

Outside lines probably need to go, crown needs to get bigger, words need to be eliminated to make room for denominations under the logo, etc...

Cool design, though, you’ll make something special.

Search for the numerous threads on cash set breakdowns (depending on stakes and number of plalyers) or tournament set breakdowns (depending of starting stacks / rebuys and number of players) respectively. A wide range of stakes and a large number of players are factors demanding a lot more chips than "normal"(other than vanity, aesthetic wantonness and addiction, that is)
Only true "clay" customs available today are from CPC. Study their site and experiment a lot with the chip designing tool.
There are also cheaper custom options, such as "ceramics".
Make sure to not make a custom chip in the very same color as your custom felt

I'd say drop the script "w" in place of the crown. Put a small denomination where the crown is now. Personally I really like the whole look if the inlay. I would even go as far as saying to leave the inlay as is and do a reverse using the same outline with a large denom. for the reverse.
The only thing is the size of the design. It is well outside of the allowable limit for CPC. It would also look better if it was a bit smaller anyways.

Very cool. I like the look of the font & design. I'm kinda digging the hexagon outer lines. But I'd agree with others to replace Food - Drink - Cards and put the denom there instead -- see how it looks with the different denoms.

For example, if the denoms go up to 5000 or 25000 for a tourney or $100 or $500 for a cash game, the font will probably need to be smaller for the longer denoms to fit inside the outer hexagon lines.

You could also keep the design in nearly it's entirety (hexagon needs a slight proportion tweak for the round inlay), and create a "B" side, where the chip denomination is the dominant feature of the design. For reference:

My home game is typically 8 guys playing small stakes (.25 - .50) cash or tournaments. I'm thinking I want this custom set to be for the cash game.

With that said, how would you break down the denominations?

What is your buy-in? How many rebuys do you get on the biggest night? What's the total bank that you need?

Great questions. Typically the buy in for the cash game is just $25. 2 rebuys on biggest night. Total bank $400-$500?

If you think you'll only ever run 1 table at a time, and if you think you'll be playing higher stakes in future years (or if you want to make your set inflation proof for the future), and if you're playing No limit holdem or Pot-limit omaha, or something similar, go with a breakdown like this:

600 or 800 chips:
100 x .25
200 x $1
200 (400) x $5 (more is better)
80 x $25
20 x $100

Don’t buy for what you play now. Buy for what you might play in the future. Yes, you can always add on, but I would start with a $1000 bank at least. My single table regular game quickly turned into a 3 table game with wait list. Maybe that is not normal...but be prepared for a bigger game. If you have her blessing now, go as big as you comfortably can.

You are off to a good start. I would change the $ to white and “Assembly” to gold. See how that looks.

Those are really nice! Did you get a color sample? The chip designer tool is nice, but the colors are different in real life. I love the $5 6A18 by the way.
Just in case you didn’t know, I think the bright white comes at a premium and maybe the daylo too. Also, traditionally the cents sign follows the number.

Graphic is still too large. Visit the CPC site and download their templates. You're always best to start off with the constraints laid out. It sucks having to go back and resize, rearrange or delete elements of a great looking design to meet constraints.
Also, start with the largest denom in your set. This too will help in picking the correct font and size you want. Sometimes it's a compromise. But again. It sucks designing a great looking Inlay that works only to have to drastically scale down the largest denoms.
