Matsui Cash Mocks (9 Viewers)

Choosing colors is hard, a new spin on the artwork background... :whistling:

Lawn green and light green.

The colors in the Matsui chip designer and their brochure are so off, I don't know how anyone could order a set and be happy with the end result using just those for reference. A color kit is an absolute must. Their mock-up department uses much more accurate colors though, I have asked if it would be possible to get their color codes (although they really should just update the brochure and chip designer with them).

In my colour kit irish green and lawn green are so close together.

And drakgreen look almost black one the real chip. Most confusing is vernillion. On the screeb like bright orange, in the colour kit more red/brown and the real chip is bright orange again

Yes, lawn green and irish green are very close. Lawn is a deeper, more vibrant while irish a slightly lighter, more muted color. Would not use them on the same chip.

I have vermillion on two of my sample chips, it matches very well to the color kit vermillion. Obviously I can't speak for your 4 Crowns vermillion chip as I don't have one in hand, but any chance it could have been made using orange instead?

All my sample chips match very well with the color kit, the trick is to closely compare the edges in natural light. If just looking at the faces, telling colors apart can be difficult. Matching the color kit to the samples @Verebrant kindly loaned to me (casino used / old chips) ranges from a bit more difficult to impossible, could be Matsui has changed some colors since making the older chips.

May I ask is there truly going to be a group buy for these or is this just a pipe dream or just mipevi set? I believe I would like a set of these but want to get in on the process if that's the case.

I won't be running a traditional GB for 10k+ chips, that's for certain. But I don't tend to put this much time and effort into pipe dreams either. :D

I will most likely offer a few people the chance to order with me so we can hit the 500 per chip minimum to avoid the +15% surcharge. This means I make all the final decisions and in the end I alone own the artwork at Matsui. I'm of course happy to get feedback during the design process and will carefully consider everything. The artwork at Matsui will be available to use for three years without additional cost (to me or with my written consent, includes changing the colors), so a semi-custom option might also be possible after or even during the initial order.

I got some pricing info. These are all rough estimates since actual order numbers are unknown, but assuming that all chips pass the 500 minimum with a total of about 3000 ordered (price goes down for more, but only slightly), all chips have glitter, and that we get a hidden UV-design done as well. Also included in these prices is custom clearance to EU and shipping to me. Shipping from Finland to anyone ordering with me will be extra.

- Two color 40mm chips €1.40 per
- Three color 40mm chips €1.70 per
- Three color 43mm chips €2.00 per

Let me know what you guys think about that. Still doable, provided the colors and decal design rock?

Glitter is €0.12 per chip, I may do the non-denom without it once I get to designing the decals. Other than that it needs to stay.

UV costs only €0.02 per chip but it adds another €195 in artwork charges to be divided among chips. We could do UV with Matsui's stock M-design and save the €195, but it won't really fit well IMO. A well done custom UV would be really cool and unique, and I feel like the dragon design is just about perfect for it...

A mock of fives using Orange and Lemon. I used an app called Color Name Detector to pilfer color codes from the color kit, at the very least they should be more accurate than Matsui's chip designer... Testing a few concepts, I am really liking the use of complementary color for the decal background! :D

I think I would have to see the other options the 25 above uses one of the edge spots colors so for consistency would you want to use them or just create different colors? I believe the blue makes the dragon stick out the most.

I love this project and the clever use of the glitter.
I'm just thinking that the design might be even stronger with a bit of text (in the middle / left of the inlay, facing the dragon's head?).

At this point I'm mainly trying out a few ideas, just to see how they work on screen and what you guys think of them. Chip colors have not been set, and won't be until I get a few more sample chips to look at. I like consistency and logical progression in a set, and there are several ways to achieve both here. Due to the multifaceted nature of these chips, I feel getting all the colors just right is paramount but also very challenging because the interactions between them are different (base color vs. denom color vs. decal color vs. glitter color). I've been spending a good amount of time not just looking at the colors, but also reading up on color theory.

The decal needs work and the current one is just something to use for mocks, so far I've been mainly playing with colors and foils. I agree there should be something on the left side overlapping the dragon. Not much space so maybe not a word but some kind of logo or a calligraphy of some Chinese character (dragon might be too on the nose though)?

Any thoughts on these colors?

1: Light Blue / Cobalt Blue
5: Orange / Lemon
25: Irish Green / Dandelion Yellow / Violet
100: Black / Day-Glo Pink / Scarlet
500: Purple / White / Mandarin Orange

Edit: Might replace Irish Green with Lawn Green, makes the 25 pop more.

The Irish Green / Dandelion Yellow / Violet is acceptable, but does not "wow" me.

The Day-Glo Pink / Scarlet looks like the red "bled" onto what were supposed to be white spots. It makes me think of a white sock in a load of red laundry.

The rest are stunning!

Yeah I like them but the green chip is my least favorite, like previously said it just ok does not wow me.

How about these, better or worse?

Not trying to negative but I think these are worse then the original set

No worries, still playing with colors and not even close to finalized... Anything in particular that doesn't work here?

Another set, let's call this number 3.

Again, the 100 looks like the deep red bled over to a once white spot. However, this may look better in real life than it does on my monitor since you went back to it. I can only base opinions off what I see.

Sure, here's all three.

If you don't like a certain chip or even a set, it would be very helpful to know why. (y)

@Poker Zombie So the sock problem is only with the black/pink/red combo, no issues with the blue and green chips? Do you also see it in these Siam Imperias?

I like set one except for the green chip and if you use the white on the 500 then we can't use the white on the green chip what about grey and purple?
