Two Pair
I'm a cash-game guy, but I wanted to create a mini-league with my group of core regulars. Thing is, I stop caring about the tournament after about 135 minutes (I’ve timed it). So I wanted to make an Ultra Turbo that serves as a warm up for the cash game. After playing around with a couple formats, I found one that works:
It’s a $10 T5 tournament, with a $5 fixed bounty. If less than 9 players are in, top place scoops. I went with T5 since my Milanos set can handle it, and the T5 values match up with the actual dollar amount.
Our first game we had a few re-entries, blinds went from .05/.10 to 2/4, and despite all that we still hit the 90-minute mark to end the tourney, at which point the remaining two players counted up their bounties and stacks and cashed out right there and then, much to the delight of the rest of the table who were itching for the cash game to start.
I know it’s not anywhere close to a formal tournament, but it definitely warmed up the guys and was lots of fun for 90 minutes, and I declare it a major success.
@GoJo_Dingo bought a cool bracelet that only the reigning tourney champ can wear, and despite it best efforts he’s the only one to wear it! And once I hound the rest of my players enough to get them to finish registering at Blind Valet we’ll have a proper league standing table.
