We just took a six-hour ferry ride from Caen, France to Portsmouth, England. A couple of days here, and we (finally!) get to fly home from Gatwick to Tampa. Yay!

Anyway, this is *1* of *4* similar whisk(e)y shelves in the duty-free shop *on board the Brittany Ferries ship* !!! Two Ardbeg bottlings I've never laid eyes on before! The next one over had three different bottlings of Penderyn Welsh Single Malt Whisky. And there are no taxes on up to 12 bottles brought into the UK. And more. And more. Better than the selections we've seen in any of the Nicolas shops in France. So, if you don't consider having to buy a new suitcase just to bring them to the US, and paying some tax then ...

Anybody here know if there is any good shops to hit in the Detroit/Ann Arbor area to hunt for whiskey? 😬

Blinded these with two buddies last night. The clear winner for me was the Jimmy Red. Wow what an awesome bottle. I don’t usually love sweet but this had an amazing ginger/caramel candy thing. I mean literal caramel melting in your mouth. Viscosity too.

Then 13th colony —> Frey -> Old 55

13th Colony was the winner for my friends. It was good but nothing new. I definitely want to revisit.

I recently had the Frey four grain uncut for the first time and it’s amazing so was surprised this didn’t do better. Excited to spend more time with this with a good palate and not in blind because I’ve never had another 100% wheat.

Old 55 was a let down but also 4th in order so needs a redemption chance but I’ll say this. I already have more Frey on the way because I’m bought into the hype, I will definitely try to find some more Jimmy Red cause WOW, and I will probably get another 13th colony at some point because I’ve heard great things about their cask strength releases.

I personally would not pay more than about $130. But secondary can go much higher. I'd say under $200 and you didn't get ripped off. But if you want it, then I guess whatever you were willing to pay is fair.

So, what did you pay?
 
I pay MSRP every year for a EHT BP, from a shop with which I have a great relationship. But I think $200 is a fair price compared to what I typically see as the markup. If I found one in NY at $200, I’d snap buy, because it is my favorite bottle. Also, considering I’ve paid MSRP for my others, the dollar cost average is very good. But even without dollar cost averaging, $200 is a good secondary price.
