Oh man, I really miss Alterac Valley. That was the best battleground, IMO. I grinded (ground?) a ton of rep before they revamped the Honor System in anticipation for The Burning Crusade. Then I hit end game and focused on raiding. Fun times although I don't miss having the game feel like a full time job. Raiding guilds were insane now that I look back on it.

You were a shadow priest?! My main was a warlock. Our guild would have loved to have you. I once convinced my disc to respec to shadow for one raid and I pulled aggro away from the tanks that entire night.

wow. just wow. Yes, I play home games for fun. yes they are silly, but they are also really fun.

I'm not hosting to grind a win. If I needed to do that I'd go play hold em at a card house which is somewhat infrequent.

I'm not trying to convince or justify anything, just giving my point of view. You can measure and tell me how I'm wrong all you want, in play the difference in width is felt. It's especially true in our silly 5 card games where those not as keen on poker card size differences have also made comments on it.
Hey, no real world examples in this thread!

Anything other than Hold'Em is silly. Those who follow the path of the righteous shall have their reward. Do not smile at the table.

Nobody is reading, that's why I 'm going to repeat myself:

-Poker-sized cards: I prefer them for being wide enough to house 4 jumbo indexes, for us left-handers, let alone crippled left-handers.
Excellent with a machine shuffler, even the cheapest one.

-Bridge-sized cards: much more friendly to a dedicated dealer in terms of hand fatigue (let alone a woman dealer with smaller hands).
Can be equally disastrous in clueless dealer-players' hands, trying to shuffle and deal.

Needless to say, I have both.

To be honest I’ve tried other games…mostly PLO, but I have never got tired of Holdem after 25 years of playing it. Never.

It’s the greatest game ever invented by humans (poker in general and holdem specifically). Name another game where you can play for 8 hours and it feels like 2. Its mostly a skill game but there is a small luck aspect that keeps bad players interestested and attracts new one. In his autobiography, Amarillo Slim said that they all switched to poker from pool becasue after a while they couldn’t get anyone to play them. It’s was all skill.

As a kid I hated poker becasue all my friends played dealers choice and the game changed every deal with wild cards and all kinds of nonsense. I never enjoyed it likely becasue I’m not really into random gambling. I didn’t get into poker until I we got into straight 7 card stud. Then I got hooked. Holdem fixed all the issues I had with stud (namely trying to remember folded cards)

I have had a regular game for 20+ years (a few gaps with kids) and no one in my group has ever asked to play another game. PLO was brought up years ago and shot down.

I can name 100 games that I can play for 8 hours and it feels like 2 but that's because I'm flawed and can get lost in hobbies. I think most people have activities they can say that about. Einstein's Theory of Relativity is not centered around hold'em! I'm happy that y'all prefer hold'em, doesn't affect me.

I prefer some circus and 7 card stud type games for exactly that reason, remembering what came before. So you agree with @Taghkanic that 5 card games are silly? Look at you guys go, reaching across the aisle!

I’ve never felt fatigue from dealing poker sized cards…and at most home games everyone deals through the night anyway. I wear size large gloves and bridge just feel significantly better to me. I’ve brought numerous new people into my game over the years that made comments that the cards felt different. When I explained that they were different, 99% of them have said they felt better.

The only exception is this contrarian guy from down the street that finds fault with everything he doesn’t have or use (kind of like a guy here) …especially if it something nicer than he has. It took a couple years to get him to use plastic cards. He claimed his dice chips feel nicer than my custom clay (too light) and ceramic chips (too slippery). He also hosts $20 tournament games with $50 chips in plays, odd ball colors for denominations, and the most bizzare structure you can imagine. Refuses to color up the chips as well….$25 chips on the table when the blinds are 500/1000. If you rebuy (which he allows at anytime…no cutoff) he gives you his pre measured stack with $25s included So that is the only guy who ever complained 😂 (BTW, the only reason I play is becasue its a nice group of guys)

No I dont think they are silly…I just have 0.0% interest in them.

What is there like 220 starting hands and 12 with a positive EV? Its not often a single person with a single statement can ruin my day. I weep for you, friend...

Cool story, but you’re angling here by exposing the indices on the bridge cards much less than on the poker size.

I could reverse that bias and get a different result.

I'm not following this thread closely because I don't really care about card size, but your comment here inspired me to look more closely at the diagrams. In your diagram, in the top half, the edges of the lettering are closer to overlapping the next card on the poker sized cards. In the bottom half of the diagram, the letters on the poker sized cards are more covered up by the next card.

I'm not accusing anyone of angling or anything like that and I couldn't care less who wins the debate, but something about the diagram is off.

Have you tried holding your cards sideways so that the index is in the more comfortable corner

This actually got me wondering. Those of you who play circus games, how do you peel your cards? I normally do something like this with my other hand covering the right side

OH I SEE. We're all going to ignore the fact that we're 13 pages deep in a thread about the different sizes of playing cards. Just 2 sizes, btw. We're not talking about 10 or even 5 options. We're just talking about TWO options. AAAAAAND *pushes up glasses* these TWO sizes are only off BY A QUARTER INCH... and *I* get called a NERD just because I just casually mentioned my horrible PVP experiences in AB and that one time I topped high raid DPS.
