I could see myself burning a lot of money from this forum - beginner learnings & thoughts.. (4 Viewers)

not worth having that small of a jump in denoms?
You typically want 5 or 4 chips per jump. The exception to the rule is usually 500s to 1000s. That's because 1000 typically becomes the base chip late in a tournament while 25s and 100s are the base early tournament. There just isnt a super practical way to make a 10x jump from 100 to 1000. There is a school of thought where the jump is to 2000, but people mostly hate that.

The next thing to think about is starting stacks. For cash games people typically like a good stack of chips. Here is the typical sage advice from the great @Chris Manzoni.

this was a great resource, thank you! I think I was too focused on making sure people could have the exact chip for every typical bet that I overlooked what you can accomplish with 100 5c, 200 25c, 200 1$, 100 5$, which seems to be a decent starting point for micro home games

Welcome to the Forum!
As an advice from another beginner in the chipping world - get samples!

Welcome!
I joined some months ago just to get a feel for things, look around and learn, every day’s a school day etc.
I’ve since bought 6 sets and more to come. I echo what’s been said previously, Justin is the way to go. I’m in Northern Ireland and it genuinely couldn’t be easier.
Good luck!

This was a great read as a new member here and newbie in the poker chip world. I'm pretty new to the feel of cheap vs expensive chips. I do feel the difference between DDLMs and Monte Carlos, but to me it's just that they're different vs being cheap/expensive. But i feel that the longer i'm at this hobby the more my preferences and approach will change.

I'm debating Monte Carlos vs Outlaws now after reading this thread. I can satisfy both cash and tournament sets with outlaws (1500-2000 chips) for a little more than 1000 monte carlos. Thinking i'll go the outlaw route

Do two separate sets completely for cash vs. tourney. Make no mistake of chips changing games either way.
Agreed, one for tourney, one for cash is best. I’d say take a look at the Broken Arrow group buys and get some Tina ceramics, they are very nice and fairly affordable considering

I'd say slow down and don't buy that many at once. Get either a tourney or cash breakdown to start. Do you have a regular game? What stakes/blinds? We can help you dial in an efficient breakdown.

I've only played two games with folks. Learning the game but my circle has a few games at around $25-50 buy in. I also use poker chips for board games and other gaming that requires tracking money. Monopoly money only goes so far ;). I just want an excuse to get some good chips but also need enough denominations both for local games and for my own uses that requires me to track up to a few million dollars

Relatively new guy here. I found this place after taking over hosting a game that I had been playing in for a few years. Wanted to make it "mine." Coming from another hobby, I knew I'd need some restraint or else I'd jump in and then get buyer's remorse.

Within three weeks of being here, I had already designed my own label for the Tina group buy, bought "Justin" racks, a Nanuk case and configured it for my 600 chip Tina set, and multiple chip sets and setups from Black Friday deals 😂

Fortunately, I have a very clear path in my mind and know what I want and need for my group so I don't see myself buying stuff just to buy. Good luck and I hope your wallet can take a few hits!

It as they say in horror movies "I'll be right back"

This sounds like a good route for me as well. I'm still getting my bearings, but where did you get your Justin racks and case? Is your TINA Gb still open? I found the Group Buy section but couldn't find the TINA GB

You need to click on @justincarothers profile and find his posts. You can see, he does a "group buy" literally every month, offering different molds with $0 label fee each month as well. He also has the racks, you can have him include as many as you need when the time comes for him to ship your chips to you.

The Nanuk case, I just bought online on their website. Search up "Nanuk" here in the forum and you'll find a post to see how people configure them for their sets. Buy according to how many chips/racks you need to arrange. Get inspiration from those posts. Good luck!

Didn’t you get two T100 WSOP sets in the Black Friday sale? Have you done a Tina set now also? Having fun yet??

I did the Tina set BEFORE I snagged those two sets 😅 But, theywon't get here til mid January at the earliest so I took a shot at the T100 sets. My group got a kick out of those Harrah's chips our last game, so yes, totally having a blast so far!
