Controversial Chip & Poker Opinions (121 Viewers)

This meme is perfect. I tell my wife and friends all the time that we’re essentially just a bunch of losers playing with our train sets in our basement man cave hahaha
My wife has met chippers.

Lol completely unrelated, she’s more than happy to take the kids and go away during meetup.

TIL this isn't a support group for folks on the spectrum.

I mean. At the same time….it kinda is a support group for atypicals  :ROFLMAO:

But now I’m curious, are most “collecting” hobbies?
I think that is so.

I started in my 20's by collecting everything I could from Franklin Mint. Followed that up with the Star Wars collectables and then went hard on collecting Watches.

During Covid it was Lego and now it's Poker Chips.

Each and every time I collect it is with feverish intent, spend way more than I should and end up with a house full of stuff that I have to resell when I move on to the next thing. My phychologist says it's most likely ASD. My wife says I'm just a little bit "special".

My wife said it was ASS and never thought it was special ;)

Not Day Green or Sherbet, but these greens are all over 11g/chip (blacks are 11.7+/chip), which is unheard of and nuts:

Anyway, I'm a big fan of leaded RHCs because textured inlays are the nuts and they have large ones. It's also why I ended up liking TRKs more than I thought I would, as they have fatter textured inlays on the ones I have. Now, do I love leaded RHCs mixed with THCs? Not really, but PCA definitely used to be extremely appealing to me when their cost-to-awesomeness ratio was spot on. Then WW spite-bought in bulk, forever driving up the price to throw that ratio way off. Cool. Regardless, they're still nice, especially the high denoms. I'd be very happy to play with a set and am shocked I've never touched a single chip of them besides a BOH I once had.

When I first handed my custom CPC to a non-chipper they said "these aren't that heavy". Lesson to be learned? Any chipper that says this is the same as a non-chipper to me. (yes that's pure deflection GFY)
I like those green chips.

Never understood the new chipper discount. Hell, that’s when you should pay the most and if you can’t…buy Tina’s or be patient.

Gotta earn those favors and friendly deals if you ask me. Stick around make sure your in it for the right reasons.

Lots of comments on the flipping tho…didn’t know you you can only profit from NAGB, Facebook finds and when selling to someone financially well off. If you find a $20 bill would you sell it to for $10? No ofc not, unless you’re doing a favor, and pick those wisely.

controversial? Man, this is your most truthful and observant comment of 2025.

None of it makes sense, but at the same time when you see people sell things cheap or go after flippers (regardless if it makes sense):

(My fav is when….flippers are going after…flippers?)

Fat Hats suck for ordinary play. The hat is goofy looking, they don’t feel right aesthetically, the diameter/height ratio is just wrong.
They are ideal for specialty chips or high value markers for example, but most can’t be relabeled.
Fat Hats are the new 36mm.
What is it they say “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure!” I absolutely love Fat Hats AND 36mm chips, what I can’t stand is the same damn thing over and over and over which is exactly what 39mm chips are… same thing over and over!

Now I own a plaque set, saw the one played at the Philly meet up and I DO NOT like all plaques sets because they take up way too much space in the table. I love plaques, Octagons and all of the larger options for high denoms. But like Kevin mentioned for high denoms only. (Example)

But every chip being IHC, Fat Hats, and 36mm all in my opinion give the players something different than that “normal” old 39mm feel. I play Tigers and non chippers are like “ohh these are nice…”. But Like last month I break out a 43mm of sunfly hybrids and they were all obsessed and love the different feel, the larger size. Nothing but compliments! Shit I think these were like $1.35 a chip while Tingers average closer to $7 per chip.

Again because I think variety matters! I will add that most are NOT fans of 36mm but we still get them in play occasionally.

There will always be folks on there that say “leaded THC or nothing!” And nothing wrong with that, I have a few too! But I am just as happy playing ceramic chips with Mario characters on them!

TL/DR
Variety! It is ok that we all don’t like the same thing! Long live Fat Hats!! I love them!!

Has anyone noticed 36mm chips mold is significantly better than rhc?
