Official PCF Whisk(e)y Thread (41 Viewers)

So, I lucked into a bottle of Buffalo Trace over the weekend. Never had it since I got into bourbon after the Buffalo Trace craze. I have to say...it's okay. I like it, but don't understand the hype. I think Wild Turkey 101 is a better budget bourbon.

I hope this does not get me tarred and feathered.
Wild turkey 101 is a staple on my bar, I find myself grabbing it regularly for a quick dram and it’s great to have when having people over who want cocktails or “whiskey and coke”. Buffalo trace is OK I can get it fairly easily here in FL but honestly I’m with you that turkey 101. If you haven’t tried rare breed give it a shot it’s quite delicious.

I tried Rare Breed a couple months back. I agree with you!
I know I am not the first to state this on this thread...so adding my voice to the choir: Wild Turkey Rare Breed is phenomenal! 101 has been my go to home "well bourbon". But just tried Rare Breed barrel proof for first time this weekend. As good a bourbon as I have ever had!

I can't say I've ever had a Barrell bottle I didn't like, though they're typically pricey so they're more treats vs everyday drinkers for me. Love the seagrass, really need to try the vantage and dovetail. Their single barrel ryes and special cask finishes are always phenomenal.

Barrell Dovetail is one of my favorites. Only Barrell that I re-stock regularly.

Dovetail almost turned me off to barrel bourbon completely. Then Seagrass brought me back. I have several I have opened yet and not sure if I will. Might get rid of them during purge or take them to meetup

BB Bottles I have
Infinity bottle
Cask strength
Seagrass 16
Seagrass 22
Gold label
Silver label

The best barrel bourbon I’ve had were the “dueling barrels” red light and green light. They’re willet distillate

I tried seagrass, and did not like it. That almost turned me off of Barrell

I know what you mean. Dovetail is the "strangest" imo, and while it didn't almost turn me off from the brand, it was just one that didn't sit as well with my palate. Still has extreme flavor, just not my preferred notes.

Every other product I absolutely love... as I've already said and you likely know.

1792 FP is still one of my favorites when considering price…so I’m going to go with the long shot here and put my money on:
1792 Full Proof John o's Pick!!

I don’t need to win…I just hope to make it past the first round LOL!!

Weller 12yr is the only other one that comes to mind. But Alberta Premium is much easy to find at a good price.
Tar and feather me, burn me at the stake and label me a blasphemer but I was not impressed one bit with Weller 12. Antique 107 is way better in my unprofessional opinion lol

Sadly, AP will not be an easy find anymore around here. I bought the last 3 bottles from my local last fall when they put them on the clearance shelf for $40 which means they won’t be ordering them anymore :confused

these were both bangers and I think the loser here could have won the first bracket

A3 v A6

palette - baking spice, nice mouthfeel, char, slight bitterness on finish
A6 - nose - banana taffy, brown sugar, proof
palette - red fruit, oak, char, creamy, long finish

This has been the closest so far A4 had more proof, but A5 was a better sipper.
