What are you listening to? (2 Viewers)

These guys mixing english rock and spanish flamenco during the late 60s, amazing stuff.

Got tickets for Lambchop after all. Should be a clan wingding, culminating in too much beer, some weirdness, and the traditional fight. :)

very jealous, tob! i hope you have the album they did with vic chesnutt - the salesman and bernadette. beautiful album, but i might be biased because i adore vic.

here's the lead off track from the album. for some dumb reason they didn't get double billing with vic, but lambchop is the backing band for the whole thing.

My dad was showing me his new Pono player (flac file music player). When he first handed it to me this was playing...gotta get this album now.

Eagles

always the Eagles.

this is the most masochistic post i've ever seen.

I hate the fucking Eagles too. Dallas plays them at Lincoln Field in 2 weeks. If someone could just nuke Philadelphia and save the Liberty Bell, the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and Independence Hall, I'd be ok with that.

On a bass player kick today so I figured I'd do my top 3 (at the moment) first to third...

Les Claypool

Victor Wooten (string breaks at around 2:50)

Jaco Pastorius

My #1 is Morphine:

Good call on the morphine stas. RIP mark sandman. Discovering that band in my early teens is a great memory. Never got to see them live unfortunately. Cure for pain still gets frequent time on my iPod though.

Seen les live many times in many incarnations and with some of the best musicians alive. Always a blast.

VDub is a badass, my favorite bass player by far.

Morphine is one of my favs as well, great music.

I haven't listened to Morphine for many years. I never got into them initially. I think I will have to revisit their catalog as my musical tastes have broadened quite a bit since my first exposure to them.

I wasn't aware of the Lambchop/Vic Chestnut collaboration, Jack - thanks for the heads up!

i wore this song out like mad over the summer, but it's back full force rotation now. sad that this guy isn't one of the biggest musicians in the world right now.

and a legitimately good cover of Heat of the Moment by Asia.

Maverick Sabre. I can't get enough of his music right now.

Morphine & Les Claypool:

Probably the tamest thing I've ever heard Les play.

I recently downloaded the Black Sabbath discography which included the Dio stuff which I never liked, but for what it is it's not bad at all.

i really never understood the hate some sabbath fans had for dio. i mean they were obviously a different band when he stepped in, but were still fucking rocking. maybe it's just that a lot of the late 80s metal culture i grew up with was pretty indulgent and flamboyant, so i was kind of immune to those elements of dio's style and those were the elements most often cited by his critics. whatever - i still jam holy diver.

Recently saw a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. His name was Ronnie James, DO.

another song so good it makes you wonder how the hell the band isn't just universally praised:

and track 2 from the same album, just about as good as the last:

Stopped listening to music in general when the conversion of formats occurred (AGAIN) back in the early 90's. Sick of having bought the vinyl, then the cassette, then the CD, only to be told . . . LOOK!!! MP3's. I bought CDs of my faves (Queensryche, Iron Maiden, the Clash) and then just switched to talk radio in the car. Daughter bought me a Green Day CD a couple years ago (the one with Last of the American Girls on it). Recently, I just bought the reissues of the Led Zeppelin catalogue (so far) and I have to say they are quite appealing. The sound is very crisp and clear. Page did an excellent job of remastering the classics.

Been listening to a LOT of jazz in the car lately on Sirius XM. The drumming is most often pretty good. Keeps me in a calm submissive mood when dealing with morons on the expressway daily :)

one of claypool's biggest influences and one of the best experimental groups of all time, the residents, covering the classic track they wrote for snakefinger's first album, man in the dark sedan:

and i've been listening to a shit ton of neil lately. so many amazing things i could put in, but i guess tonight's the night has been my focus lately and this is a ridiculous live version:

Neil Young sucks.

(I am required by local ordnance to state that whenever the whiny bastard's name comes up.)

them's fighting words, but i sense that you knew that at least subconsciously given your freudian typo.

As a kid growing up, I would often have the following conversation:

Me: what's the best thing abou Crosby, stills and Nash?
Other: what?
Me: young.

The guy is Canada's best export.
