Whats your favorite coffee? (5 Viewers)

I’m not trying to poop on that deal (which I’m sure has expired) but this is more of a question. $300ish seems like an awful lot to spend on a drip coffee maker. I assumed it had a grinder built in at first glance, but no. Drip coffee is such a simple process, I have to ask - are people routinely spending that much money, and why?

i think my coffee maker cost $30 and have used it for 3 years and have had delicious coffee and zero problems

so on weekdays i brew 10 cups of coffee for work and i use dripper. On saturdays i will grind beans and use either chemex or french press, whichever i'm feeling for the day, but on special days when i only want 1 cup, i'll use my aeropress. The aeropress is a lot more work, but it makes better coffee that all other methods

I haven't used my drip coffee maker since I've gotten my chemex and my gooseneck kettle. The same coffee is light-years better with a pour over than with drip.
Right, I agree. I guess my question is, even though this thing probably won’t make coffee as good as pour-over, is it measurably better than a $30 Walmart special, or is this all about marketing and countertop prettiness?

My last drip maker was plus $100 and yes, it was better than the $30 model. Big part of it was the insulated pot and no burner to cook the coffee.

Took me 10 years to get to this point. I've been using cheaper coffee machines (Mr. Coffee, Cruisinart, Bonavida and finally to a Moccamaster) and yes there's a difference. Much better build quality which leads to very consistent water temperature for brewing and supposedly longevity. Bonavida got bought out recently and voided warranties for previous purchases so I told myself I would never go back to that company. It was my first $100+ coffee machine and even with that the taste and quality of the coffee was very good vs my other machines. You can check reviews on why the Moccamaster is considered one of the if not the best drip coffee machine you can get, but that discussion and argument is more along the lines of telling someone why leaded THC chips are better than a cheaper set of chips. Lots of preference and only seems worthwhile to some people.

Pour over coffees are great! I think the Moccamaster is the closest all of my drip machines have gotten to pour over quality. I enjoy espresso, french press and cold brew but I always levitate back to drip coffee as my mainstay. That's also part of the reason why I went with a more expensive machine since I could get a lot of use out of it (my daily 20 oz of coffee). Any more than that and I get the jitters

i use cafe du monde as well and it brews really dark so i only use 1/2-1/3 the grounds that i would use with other coffee. It even says on the package that you should use less. I sometimes use french press too, but find that my countertop coffee maker works just as well. I use a micromesh filter, but you could just use a paper filter and then just lift it out and throw in trash.
If you don't want to do that, then just keep a container on the countertop and dump grinds in there, then just throw the grinds into a flowerbed since coffee grinds make for good compost and fertilizer.
It's not that initial dump of grounds, it's like the 50-60 grounds that stick to the walls of the press or the plunger that need to be rinsed out. Or the grounds that stick to your wet spoon if you are digging them out. SOOOO frustrating.

My newest addition.

Commercial cold brewing system. Basically a bucket with a lid and spout that cost $100. :ROFLMAO:

I really like intelligentsia el gallo blend. I can find it in the grocery. Heart roasters is the bomb though.

I’ve been buying green coffee beans and roasting my own coffee. It’s obviously gonna be super fresh this way and I save a lot of money too which means MoAR chippies

How long after roasting do you wait before grinding and brewing?

For espresso, I tried a bunch of different beans at first, but it’s a pain in the butt (and wasteful) dialing in your grind for different beans. And I’m cheap. So I’ve settled on Starbucks espresso dark roast whole beans. It’s good and they’ve been consistent for me.

according to my experience:

Best coffee....no contest Bra Caffee in Barcelona, Spain
Worst coffee.....train station in Kiel, Germany
