October 3, 2019 is the date that chipping turned into a real passion for me. I had been on PCF for two years, mostly learning and lurking. I think the only chips I had at the time were a set of Majestics that could cover up to 3 tables with the intention of using them in a local monthly tournament series that has since gone belly up.
But that day, I was on my lunch break at work and decided to check Facebook. I found a local garage sale with pictures posted of what I was pretty sure were Paulsons, although I admit I really didn't have much of a clue. I traded a few messages with the woman hosting the sale and decided to drive the 15 minutes to check it out. An older relative had passed away a few months prior so they were clearing things out. She said someone was supposed to buy the chips earlier that day, but it fell through.
She was selling 11 boxes of chips for $1 each. I bought them all and made it back to work on time. To this day cannot believe my good fortune. I kept 6 or 7 racks - now the foundation of the Starburst rainbow below - and sold the rest to help fund my first "real" set, from the Horseshoe in Cincinnati. I later sold the Majestics and the HS Cincy sets and have been on the buy/sell/trade/upgrade/downsize/change directions merry-go-round ever since. My latest count is just shy of 6,500 chips.
Thanks to all who have been a part of my chipping journey! Happy chipper-versary!
