October 3, 2019 is the date that chipping turned into a real passion for me. I had been on PCF for two years, mostly learning and lurking. I think the only chips I had at the time were a set of Majestics that could cover up to 3 tables with the intention of using them in a local monthly tournament series that has since gone belly up.

But that day, I was on my lunch break at work and decided to check Facebook. I found a local garage sale with pictures posted of what I was pretty sure were Paulsons, although I admit I really didn't have much of a clue. I traded a few messages with the woman hosting the sale and decided to drive the 15 minutes to check it out. An older relative had passed away a few months prior so they were clearing things out. She said someone was supposed to buy the chips earlier that day, but it fell through.

She was selling 11 boxes of chips for $1 each. I bought them all and made it back to work on time. To this day cannot believe my good fortune. I kept 6 or 7 racks - now the foundation of the Starburst rainbow below - and sold the rest to help fund my first "real" set, from the Horseshoe in Cincinnati. I later sold the Majestics and the HS Cincy sets and have been on the buy/sell/trade/upgrade/downsize/change directions merry-go-round ever since. My latest count is just shy of 6,500 chips.

Thanks to all who have been a part of my chipping journey! Happy chipper-versary!

This made me think of an idea for a potential thread:

@dmoney Has this been done already? I go garage sales on a regular basis and have found some pretty nice sealed decks of cards.

Very nice find. I tried to recruit my parents to find chips at auction/yard sale/etc. around Clearfield County. Fortunately they mostly stopped going. They have enough guns, vintage ice cream scoops and rolling pins.

I think so? …at least I’ve seen some other people post their “scores.” If not, would love to see it!

Congratulations @dmoney (Dallas) awesome story that you remember the exact day.

Funny how we all have that first Paulson story... for me it was that we had a bunch on Wecome to Vegas, Monte Carlos and Casino Royale sluggos. 3 playable sets... but when we joined PCF and started catching on to all the "hype" over Paulson chips, I found a small mixed lot on eBay and decided to buy it... I dumped them carefully out of the bubble mailer and took a picture of the stack

I told @FordPickup92 in that moment "once I touch those chips I already know there is no going back to sluggos!" I reached in and grabbed them.. a couple quick shuffles and literally to this day we have not played the Sluggos since and we have thousands and thousands of them! Lol

Anyways again congratulations on the milestone brother Dallas, hopefully eventually we cross paths in the great state of PA! Only a matter of time!

Always your chipping Brother
Ben
