Wow. I found a mint deck of copags in my card box, the other night, that I never realized I owned. Weird. I haven’t bought a deck of copags in over 5 years, after having a bad experience. But I’ve come to suspect those bad experience copags were counterfeits (sounds strange, I know). And of course I’ve played with copags in some cheaper card rooms over the years, but those cards are usually beat, and when you don’t get to shuffle, they’re hard to judge.
Anyway, I just opened them.

They’re fine cards. Maybe good cards. Not worth a premium price, but if you can find them for a decent price, maybe they’re not such a bad buy after all. They shuffle really well with that clumsy home shuffle we all learned when we were younger (and what most nob-dealers I know still use.) So that might explain some of their popularity - some plastic cards with different finishes are difficult to manage unless you do a proper poker dealers shuffle.
Another observation is that this deck is slightly bowed. This deck has been sitting in cellophane for years in my house, and who knows how long before I got them from some user here. But it’s worth mentioning m, because now I remember playing in a cardroom that used copags, and they always seemed bowed. One of the reasons I remember is that I used to have a habit of bending my hole cards against their bow, while I was waiting for my action, until one day a guy told me I was flashing my cards to him.

Anyway, overall impression is that they’re decent cards, unless bowing is a frequent issue - is it?

Maybe I'm wrong, but that's seems unusual to me. I have had Kems that bow, but the Copags I have played with are thick enough that I have not had any that bow. They do seem to wear quickly, but bowing has never been an issue. I usually get these, bridge sized, which are pretty standard I think.

I have never seen them bow from use, or exposed to humidity (like Kems). I did purchase a setup of Copags once, and one of decks was bowed. I think it was a manufacturing defect. The deck was still shrink wrapped. I contacted the vendor I purchased them from, and they replaced it.
It’s not common, but they can be bowed.

I've never seen Copags bow either. Not that I've had thousands of hours playing with Copags. But I've been using them for a couple of years.

I did see a particularly old/used deck have color transfer, like you could see the backing color/design rubbed onto the front of the cards.

My copags were always prone to Bowing. If I remember, it was semi common.
I went and dug out the two setups I've used the most, a standard red/blue 1546 and their black/red WSOP 2016, that I've been switching between for years, and no bowing. Haven't used them recently because I've been using the WSOP 2012 Fourniers and green/burgundy Bicycle Prestiges in the last couple live games.

Wonder if bridge vs. poker size makes a diff. The two Copag setups above are both bridge size...

So, I never used any of the WSOP cards, just the standard Black and Gold two deck setups. Bought 20 of them for our game for a few years. All of them for retired for Bowing, but I got plenty of games out of them.

I think it depends on how they’re stored - I had a brand new setup become bowed after being stored upright (like SASC’s pic above). Another Copag setup never (noticeably) bowed after several years - this setup was stored flat.

You must have some potent hooker juice in your game my friend. I pulled out a couple of decks that I have had for 5+ years and not an ounce of bowing. Faces are worn, but not an ounce of bowing.

It never really bothered me, as I really did get a fair amount of games on them. I'll say the plastics I've sold last a bit longer. But both lasted better then KEMs for me....

All of mine are bridge sized, so poker versus bridge might make a difference.

I'm kinda starting to think cards are like Car Brands. Each person as there own flavor.... Hahaha
Yeah, you're probably right.

But for the record, I don't like Copags and haven't put them in play for years. I used them from 2009 to 2017ish, but found better cards along the way. Too thick and stiff (that's what she said) relative to other cards I like. I was just surprised that anybody had Copags that bowed because I always found them relatively thick.

And I'm starting to think @upNdown might have known that when he started this thread :)
Ha. Something I would do, for sure. But this is genuine. I’ve been anti-copag for years, but like I said, I just cracked open a deck and I like them, except for the bowing.
Fwiw, mine are poker size and were warped in the cellophane. Not a bad bow, but noticeable. And I got them from another PCRer several years ago, so I have no knowledge of their history.

Copags aren't my favorite but they're decent and can get the job done. What I noticed was the texture, which I kind of liked, until I played on actual felt and not speed cloth and the cards just stuck to the felt like Velcro. I do like that they have a wide variety of colors and styles, but I don't own any Copags and and don't see myself buying any in the future.

Just about any plastic cards, cellulose acetate and PVC cards alike are prone to bowing or warping if conditions are harsh. Keep the cards out of heat, humidity, and direct sunlight and they'll maintain their shape for years. Except for Kems. Those bow if you do so much as turn your heat on in your house in the winter time.

KEMS are the worst when it come to maintenance

Zero Tolerance to any heat and they get the “scale” skin so easily

Never will buy another KEMS, rather spend it on much better brand elsewhere
I’ve only ever owned casino KEMs and I can confirm the warping issue. But I’ve been experimenting with the “store them upside-down under a dealer button and cut card” instruction - it sounds like so much hooey, but so far it seems to be working. Anyway, based on that, I just traded a couple of Angel decks for a consumer KEM setup. I look forward to seeing if a) they feel as good as casino KEMs (which in my opinion are one of the top two decks) and b) if this silly storage method keeps working.

I was the same way. I used to stack racks of poker chips on my Kems to "hopefully" keep them straight. I have no idea if my Kems were casino quality, but I hated them...LOL.

I got my KEM's back to flat storing them upside down with slugged dice chips on top, but I haven't used them since. I'm assuming they'll be ok but I'm just over KEM. Curious how the KEM cards you receive are @upNdown.

I bought my first setup of bridge Copags back around 2006-2007 from a reputable seller, and both decks were warped right out of the cellophane.
I contacted Copag via the website (copagusa.com) and they had me mail them one of the decks.
They sent me a new setup that was fine.

I have to say Copag USA's customer service is really good! Reached out for issues, and they've been very responsive. One example: I got a Copag "Dealer Kit" on Amazon (came w/DB, cut cards) and the cut cards had the Copag logo printed off-center, and I contacted them through Amazon and they mailed me extra replacement cut cards. It's a little thing but makes me like them.

I have 100% same experience....The good thing about Copag was availability and cost.
Never had any issues with chipping or bowing, only fading of the ink (esp. on SSC).

I do like the new Cartamundi BE stock A LOT more then the old Brazilian & Spanish stock

I recently discovered that I lost the standing joker in my Copag magnum red deck. We play some family games that use jokers. I filled out the replacement card form online with Copag and straight up told them I lost the card. Less than a week later the replacement and correct card showed up in the mail no questions asked and not a penny spent. I'll buy another 1546 set up just for the customer service experience.
