OK So if I have this right:

6 hole cards (@detroitdad said '5' in his post I assume that's a typo? Or can the game be played with less hole cards to accommodate more players?). How many of them can be used to make the Holdem hand at showdown?

The bottom board is only used to determine which cards are discarded. When does that happen? Before the round of betting or after?

It seems unfair to have a player be disqualified if they're forced to discard all their hole cards. Which 'zero hole cards' procedure is most common?

You can play either way. My preference is 5 in the mitt. 6 increases the variance to much.

As soon as the bottom cards are flipped, you discardthem face up. Then the betting round starts.

I think it's unfair to be able to win any portion of the pot without a single card in the mitt.
