WSOP Chip Usage - 2007 Rio Primary Paulson Set (2 Viewers)

They have been using the Hawaii Flower 100ks when necessary with the primaries all series this year but we haven't seen anything higher. I am waiting to see if they bust out the 250k or which 500ks, hopefully tonight. It has been a boring year in terms of chip usage.

I don't have Pokergo so I am not actively watching though.
Briefly (like very briefly) a couple of the yellow 1m made it out for the 10k PLO

The Jamaican ones right. These look new
It just tilts me because they have rfid versions of the 25k and 100k but those aren’t in play. And the 5m from 2019 was 8v

I’m sure the set designer is also annoyed by the mixings

My best guess:

They like to use different high denom chips at the Main Event to prevent any kind of trying to sneak chips from a smaller event into it. They even stopped using this primary set for any tournament with a buyin of $1,500 or less. However, the field was bigger than expected and the starting stacks cause a huge inflation in chips in recent years and they were not prepared to handle it with the amount of 25k and 100k RFID chips they had. Since they used the 1M regulars in other tournaments, they chose to use the RFID versions for the ME.

Why the 5M Blurple is not RFID tagged? I have no idea.

Interesting no red 500 K frisbees at all this time around

Haven't done a full sweep but it looks like they didn't use a single 500K chip with any of the sets in any tournament this year.

They went with the 100k to 1M/5M (when necessary combo).

Edit: I only found 2 tournaments so far that used a 500K chip this year. Event #8 with the Bud Jones secondaries and Event #10 with the Bud Jones Primaries.

I think you are going to see more of this going forward. 500k chips aren't super useful as it's only half the more plentiful 1m chip. Just like how even with a 60k starting stack they only give everyone 2 T500 to start because they aren't really useful. But there they serve more purpose because of wanting to minimize the number of chips in the starting stack.

As time goes on, the trend to minimize the number of chips in play continues, and rightfully so. Go back and look at 2004-2008. The amount of chips in play on the late stages was absurd and caused stack counting to be a nightmare.

You even see this in cash games at rooms that have $10 chips. At 5/10 they primarily use 10s and 100s. It works just fine and you can minimize the number of denoms in play. I can even imagine them changing the structure in the future to phase out the 5k chips faster. Instead of going from 100k/200k to 120k/240k, they could eliminate the 5k at 100k/200k and next go to:

125k/250k
150k/300k
200k/400k
250k/500k
Etc.
