My Journey As A Professional Poker Player (36 Viewers)

Another hand, $25 bomb pot, perfect flop for me. I get it in, another player all-in and maniac called way behind

Turn and river bricked (he only goes once)

I have developed a nice little counter to keep pots from spiraling into all-in fests pre in some instances

The straddling maniacs love to see everyone calling the $10 straddle, then pot it to $70-90 with their option

Some other players sitting on 300-400 will use these spots to reshove with dead money, regardless of their holdings

I've started making juicer raises pre in position, between $15-25 depending on whether it's straddled or not

I'll do this with premiums as well as more speculative, but decent hands

It seems to stop a lot of those pot raises and I get multiway pots postflop for much less of an investment

I'll do it with premiums, but sometimes I limp those too

Anthony,

What do you do when the game is good but you're consistently running like shit? Do you have a philosophy when the deck just doesn't want you to win?

Tonight in a one-hour span online I've lost 4 buyins: twice I got in with a set and an OESD on a rainbow flop in a three-way showdown. Lost both of those to the worst hand when the money went it. Two other times, I got it in with KKxx on a board showing trips only to run into aces despite holding blockers (partially my fault on those but hard to get away from).

I mention those not to complain about the beats... but to contextualize something I'm sure you can relate to. Now I'm not a pro. I can chuck my poorly performing laptop (it's always the equipment's fault) out the window of a moving car out of pure frustration (who hasn't amirite?) and still be fine... since I have other computers and showing them what happens when they get out of line will serve as a valuable warning to them. But dragging pots is how you feed your family. So you more or less HAVE to play.

So I just wondered what your thoughts are on bad runs and tilt in general.

Even if a game is amazing, if I'm not "feeling it" or if I'm starting to feel frustrated, I'll pickup my ball and go home

I have a daily loss limit, but I don't HAVE to lose every last dollar in my pocket

If it's been a rough stretch I'll take some time off and enjoy other activities like video games, roller skating, etc to destress

@detroitdad has answered these questions in other threads, found here and here and here.

I keep playing. I was up 30 buyins by Wednesday. Then 'gave' back 17 yesterday. Live by the sword die by the sword. Got to strike while the fish are still swimming.

Maniac two to me left straddling and potting EVERYTHING

Just went all-in 5 ways with :qs::jd::7c::2s: and made two pair to scoop(he onlygoes once)

He's still stuck though, been chewing through buyins

I'm down only $70, haven't had a hand to go to war with

Well I tried. It's straddled to 40, I limp as do a bunch of others, maniac pots it, one caller, I shove

3 ways all-in pre and I pull ahead on the flop but he runner runners to beat me

Is this all the same maniac, hitting the river every time?

Yup, was in seat 1 yesterday and today when he is running like god

Middle aged asian doofus. Only goes once because the most his shitty hands can do is win once

I got it in pre with :as::jh::ts::8h: against a different player who calledoff with :kd::qs::tc::9c:

We went twice, he made straight on 1st board and filled up on 2nd

Think I'm going to take a break from luckys for a bit. At least at the Hard Rock I can play post-flop poker where my edge increases, instead of this bingo shit

I questioned it a little when you sat, already aware that there was a maniac who like to get it all in pre. Sure, in Hold'em you can wait (and wait) for value, but it will pay off. In Omaha, you are sitting so much closer to a flip every time, that if you are continually playing for stacks pre, it's just a flipament.

Some people like to gamble using the Martingale system. All the house games have caps that prevent the Martingale system from being completely effective. The poker room doesn't really have a limit. The 1/2 big stack limit continues to get bigger, so he can continue to shove in the dark, or with 67% of possible hands.

Obviously I'm no pro, but I think it just doesn't pay to go against someone who only plays for stacks and has an utter disregard for money - unless you plan to sit very short term.
