A lot of people here make money playing poker. Besides poker chips, what is the best thing you bought with your poker winnings?

I'll go first. I used to play in a league that took money out of each tournament to fund a year end free roll Tournament of Champions. I ended up winning the free roll and bought a lifetime fishing license, lifetime second rod stamp, and lifetime saltwater stamp. Unfortunately that tournament is no longer running, but I think about it every time I go fishing!

Usually happy If I can buy a Kickstart and a gross 7-11 hot dog that's been on the roller about 13 hours at 4:30 am after leaving @Seeking Alpha Social Club … I don't think that is unreasonable... about $4 profit is enough for me!! If I win $6 I can afford a bag of crappy low cal popcorn for @FordPickup92 too!! LOL

I am a break even at best poker player... still new to the cash scene! Before the meet up in Ohio this year I receueved an offer for a huge chunk of our Mardi Gras BCC V2 chips. Unfortunatley both of us took about every dime we had as our bank roll for the weekend. I couldn't afford the chips... but then again if I win some, maybe I could make it work!!

Well we had the best time ever and came home with some extra funds... helped me complete our true dream forever set!!

They were in play that weekend as well, karma is real and I thank the poker Gods for that awesome weekend!!

Solidified for the next one @toynoob and your people helped me complete it!!

I bought some great HSI chips, which I sold because—if you will forgive the Marie Kondo reference—they didn’t spark joy.

So, if you ask my wife, it’s this Kardiel sofa.

If you ask me, it’s this Eastman E10OM, that just happens to be resting on said couch.

I don’t play for a living. Our home game is still relatively young (about 18 months going now). But, anytime I’ve won, those winnings have gone back into upgrading the game - better chips (duh), better cards, Barrington table, upgrades to the Barrington, extra chairs, more chips (duh), etc.

Hopefully, our little game will be all set in the near future. But my reading here and experience on PCF tells me this cycle never really ends.

I took my poker winnings from a few years back and dedicated that years grind to my now wife's engagement ring. I have a hard time spending money on things like jewelry, and can't get into the concept of spending thousands on stones that aren't actually that rare and then lose 50% of their value once it leaves the store but this felt like a nice gesture. It accomplished a few things; (1) Me buying a ring for a very deserving fiance that I would normally never buy, (2) Me allowing to let go a little bit and make such a big purchase for another person - my therapist patted me on the back for that one!, (3) Me using specifically my poker winnings on something for my wife, since my poker playing had always been a source of friction in our relationship (at least in our first few years of dating). So yeah, worked out pretty well I would say!

I actually was able to do this to. I would never tell her this though, because it wouldn't mean as much to her then.

Interesting, why do you think it would mean less? Because it was "won gambling" or something? For my wife it meant more because it was hard earned over many hours of study/play and I could kind of say "see... all that was for you" :)

Yeah, funding poker chips/stuff for sure as I then can pretend i haven't spent actual real money, haha. But it's also nice to surprise the mrs with something. Or the kids. When i was a student (during the poker boom) i made enough from poker so that i didn't have to work extra during the weekends for about a year or two, that was nice.

I hinted to her some of it might have come from poker winnings and she didn't seem too pleased. I never brought it up again.

Probably my wife's engagement ring after a particularly lucrative live tournament run in 2007 where I won 3x 100+ person tournaments at Foxwoods all within a month of each other. After each successive win, I called the jeweler to increase the size of the stone because why not?

Sadly, I have not enjoyed such a run since. :( Not that I have the time anymore.

Wanted to laugh and like this at the same time. Luckily my wonderful Benji has been a huge coach for me as well as @Lil Tuna, all free at the cost of good company beers and cigars!

TBH...i did some work myself (books, courses, ...) and used the J Little coaching site.
I had solid results but I was a bit over the place and trying too much (PLO & NLHE cash & tourneys).

Now I only focus on NLHE MTT (for study) and with the help of a coach (ranges, position, betting sizes & hand reviews) my game improved al lot.
So worth the money...

The vacation house right Phil? LOL That's awesome brother!! Side note to self... do not accept Phil's invitation to the friendly home game!!
At the time it was my principal residence.

Nah I haven’t played more than 4 times since 2012. I’m a true mark now. Someone whose game is completely eroded but still feel like a true player.

With my first bigger win (about $700) I bought a stainless steel grill that I still have 20 years later!

I have bought a lot of stuff besides poker items with my winnings. I bought our new fridge with winnings a few years ago, that made my wife happy not to have to spend from the savings!

One of the regrets I had was I paid for all new landscaping at my old house after a good weekend of poker. Right after I paid for it my (ex) wife left me! I sure could have used the extra money right then.

I feel your pain. That house I mention above belongs to my ex-wife.
