Hello you crazy chip people!

Not a frequent poster, but no less a chip lover. A gentlemen is retiring from the company I worked at for 30 years. He is/was a senior leader of the company, is beloved by many and is an avid poker fan. We have had many off-site meetings where poker games/tourneys take place, he is always a part of it. For his retirement after 40 years, his colleagues want to give him a "high end" set of custom chips. Since I am the resident chip expert at this company (but only a rank amateur compared to many on this site), they have asked for my help.

I've used the CPC Chip Designer tool (this is originally from J5 on Chiptalk, right?) and have a set sort of designed. Various influences for the colors and edgespots, but in general, these will be non-denom specific, but the colors will follow a frac to $100 chip color scheme. I just sort of winged it, based on what I think he likes, and also to some degree what I like. Would love anyone's thoughts, ideas, etc. And, if I have taken too much liberty with certain colors from existing sets (i.e. Le Cove) and broken some chip design commandment, lemme know that as well.

These will have a 7.8" inlay, basically a red & teal & white colored company logo. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

PS: Some rationale for each chip:
1. Frac (purple chip) is because the guy is a Clemson Univ alum. So a frac that incorporates CU colors
2. $1 (white) is based on a spot pattern I love for a $1 (4A18) but with the red & teal/light blue of the company
3. $5 (red) and $20 (yellow) is based on the Le Cove's (perhaps my fav fantasy set of all time). Is this cool?
4 $100 (black chip) is just a mock up that I thought looked good.

Hope the Chip Designer pic loads right. Again, thanks for any feedback.

I love the design but more than anything I love the story behind it. These will make an incredible gift that will not only show appreciation for his decades of loyalty and hard work, but will be cherished by him and his family forever.

A+,

Very nice! I think the one needs a little more flavor since the frac is loud (in a good way)

Awesome gift! I would recommend DG tiger and bright white for the frac spot. Can't have a Clemson chip without DG tiger. Or make it 10000% better with blue and gold! (go Irish!) ;)

Thanks all! Great suggestion for the DG Tiger and bright white on the frac, how could I have missed that?

And I get the suggestions for spicing up the $1/white chip. I had originally picked the spot pattern after the Four Queens & Venetian $1's, just changed the colors to better match the company logos colors. I have created a couple new options, in the image below. I am trying to bridge spicing it up with the relative simplicity of a clean-looking, lower-denom chip in the set (and yes I know I didn't follow that logic with the frac. I sort of make that make sense in my mind since it's a frac and if it is only worth 25 or 50 cents at least it could look good:)

Anyway thoughts on the 2 new designs for the $1? They are 6A18 and 4D18, respectively. Open to your suggestions! Thanks in advance.

Have a look at the yellow. If I were in your shoes, I'd go for canary yellow, since the standard yellow is really, really dark and not much fun to look at. DG yellow is very light with a slight hint of green. At least that is how I perceive the color samples I'm holding in my hand right now.

Before you spend that amount of money: please get samples!

I like the design and also vote for a "louder" $1

Thanks! I own the below ASM's, I believe they are the regular yellow (with edgespots) and dayglo yellow (no spots). It's been about 15 years since I got them from ASM. I've got 2 sets of ASM's so I have some of the colors to use for comparisons. But playing around with the $20 / yellow chip, I added the canary and the butterscotch as options. I think I might like the butterscotch! It is closer to the original Le Cove $20 I think.

I like the second white chip here

+1 for canary

Awesome gift. My only input so far is that i'm not a big fan of that brown spot on the red 5.

Also, since this is a gift you probobly have some sort of date you want to give this away. I've never ordered from cpc, but there seems to be a great deal of waiting involved, so just a heads up on that. Maybe going with whatever mold that is in rotation or about to go in production at the moment you order is a way to cut down some time?

Thanks for the feedback. The brown spot is essentially the closest to the spot color on the $5 Le Cove's, but I see your point. I'll play around and see what could work and see what I get.

One thing I didn't mention is that the gentlemen receiving the chips is also a big horse guy. In fact, that is his biggest passion I would say. Owns horses, rides regularly, etc. So the Horsehead mold seems to fit.
I was asked just yesterday about this and I've warned that lead-time could be an issue. The feeling is better to get the right product first and wait, if needed.

Well, the horsehead mold seems like a very good choice then. Others know better, but atleast i think that is a mold that sees a lot of use, so hopefully you don't have to wait forever.

Be aware of the time factor. Depending on what mold you choose, even if you had your order with all the art in to CPC today, there may be a fairly long delay until your set can be made depending on the mold rotation schedule. A-mold runs all the time, so that would probably be your least wait.

This sounds like an awesome retirement gift!

What's the budget for this and how many chips are you hoping to order?

Thanks! Yes, in another thread, David indicated the HHR mold is pretty much coming out now. And, that it could be 9-12 months before it runs again. The HH mold is kind of important as the person receiving the chips is a horse person so........the timing is not good.

If the mold is that important You could always give him a copy of the final proofs and the order and tell him it will be here in 12 months. Not ideal but the mold is such an important part of the chip especially for such a significant gift that he will use for many years to come.

I wouldn't give any promises as to the timing. Bad experience here, yes due to covid, but also due to CPC adding new orders to the delayed molds in the waiting line (instead of adding them to the run after), thus even more delaying everything that's scheduled for the molds already in line.

No I really like the frac, just need the one to not be overlooked between that and the 5!
How about making it a blue $1? Make the base color the teal and the edge spots white. Kind of like the Paris $1 with two color edge spots (white/tiger).

What a great gift and great story.... very nice sentiment

I like the 4D18 for the $1
+1 for canary
not a fan of the chocolate(?) spot on the red $5

Meh. I like the white over blue in the line up, especially next to a purple. If I have time this evening I will jump on CPC and toy with it

Welp, the below is where I ended up with all of your feedback. Would have loved to see them made, but since the HHR is now looking like Aug or later and chips would be something closer to a year away, looks like a pivot to ceramic or hybrid ceramic is underway. End of the day, the folks really planning the gift don't want to wait that long. In the process though, I've learned a bit about how things work now at CPC (I want to still say ASM) since I bought my chips from Jim B about 15 years ago. So many more options now, wow!
Anyway, thanks for the feedback, advice, etc. Much appreciated!

Totaly understand not wanting to wait. I can highly recomend sun-fly chips as that is what i have. Also, if you want to give it a bit more of a high end feeling, i can also recomend msk for plaques. You can click the Link for my tournament chips in my signature to have a look at what i had made.

Another option, altough not custom like you want, is to go for one of the paulson horseshoe sets, either from the classifieds or if still available from the chiproom. Theme is a fit atleast. Or, if you don't mind the cost, have Gear relabel them (or do it yourself) for a semi-custom set.

You know what, this might be too much money for what you guys/your company have in mind for a gift. But what about Abbiati? High end italian casino chips. They look fantastic. I know it will be a small fortune to have a single set made, but so is classics poker chips, but that would be an epic gift. You might want to look into if that is something for you.

Ceramics (and ceramic hybrids) allow you the greatest degree of customization possible, with full face printing, rolling edge printing, edge alignment, etc. You'll want a good design and maybe get some input from one of the graphic designers here. 1000 chips will get you a fully useable cash set (from frac through $20/25) as well as a tourney set starting T25 or T100 base.
