Note about international shipping: In a previous life, I felt like I didn't want to say CONUS only in my ads. Everyone wants chips and shipping internationally can't be that hard, right? In the time of covid, however, I don't feel comfortable spending any more time at the post office than I have to. For now, no international orders please. If you have someone stateside who can re-ship, I'm happy to work with you to get the deal done.

Pre-sale Count: 3738
Pricing:
- 1-299 chips: $0.14/chip $0.12/chip + shipping
- 300-499 chips: $0.12/chip $0.10/chip + shipping
- 500+ chips: $0.10/chip $0.08/chip + shipping
BIN: If some crazy wants to buy them all, I'll sell for $0.07/chip + shipping If you want them all, just PM me and we'll figure it out.
Order preference: Higher quantity orders win out over lower quantity. I'll do my best to respect dibs, but only to a point. I'd like to get these sold.

Some notes:
- There's quite a bit of variation here. Some are razor sharp and very plasticy. Some I would have sworn were clay. Some have stamps. Some are clean, and some are very dirty.
- To my knowledge, despite feel, they're all plastic.
- These will all mill well, which was my plan. They'll also accept a hot stamp.

Remaining quantities. Please see next post for more description of each chip.

Here's some photos. If there's something you'd like to see a bit closer, feel free to ask. No guarantee that they're all even represented here, but I've tried my best.

Part of the reason I bought all of these was for research. I was convinced that some of them were clay. I now don't think that, but I did collect a whole lot of data! Did I learn anything? No. Was it fun? Yes!

Here it is, for better or worse.

I was convinced that some of them were clay. I now don't think that, but I did collect a whole lot of data!
If a chip feels like clay and it weighs 8.5 grams and you can’t find an injection point, why would you conclude that it isn’t clay?

History, I guess? My research suggested that the clay version of these chips were exceedingly rare.

They still may be clay, but I don't feel comfortable saying the definitively are. I tried pretty hard to prove that they were. I even burned a representative chip of each group to look for differences, but no luck.

Would you be willing to mill these, by any chance?

Hmm, maybe? Don't have a ton of free time for that. I quoted $0.25/chip in my other thread, so I guess I'd honor that price here. How many would you want milled?

Can these take a label?
Not enough consistency between chips to make a blanket statement. Just checked a few with the digital calipers. 0.2mm recess on the really plasticy ones. Closer to 0.15mm on the clay-like ones. So I'd say you'd probably be good.*

My initial plan was for a 500 to 600 tournament set — but will probably end up being cost prohibitive with shipping to the UK though (I would use a US shipping address through Shipito), on second thoughts. Think I'll have to pass, sadly — as much as I love these. GLWS.

So you're saying that the ones without an injection dimple burned like a torch? - just like the ones with?

Bump. All prices lowered. Existing dibs will be honored at lower prices, and I’ll reach out to buyers now.

Let’s get these sold!

No not clay, but look different than the real cheap chips.

Nicer smoother finish and not as slippery.

Chipco made a lot of these for Casino's to use, especially for 25c chips.

I have some of the 25c Hot Stamped Casino made chips.

Were those clay? How can you tell?
This was debated several years ago regarding whether there were compression-molded unicorn chips produced at some point, and I don't believe we ever got consensus. @41Pickup, a well respected chipper, along with Robert Eisenstadt (chip mold bible creator - RIP), noted that some of the Unicorn chips did not have the injection dimple and felt very much compression-molded. David Spragg and Jim Blanchard (ASM/CPC) both came back and said that only injection-molded Unicorns were ever made. As far as I recall, no tests were conducted to burn the chips to determine composition.

FWIW, all Unicorns I own are clearly Chipco plastics.

Edit: Burn test were conducted. Please see @41Pickup's response below

Some of these are clearly of a higher quality than others. I can't be sure of a manufacturer, but there's no doubt in my mind that there's a world of difference between some.

Yep, I've read through all the threads. I hoped -- perhaps ignorantly -- to solve the problem myself. Unfortunately, I have no new answers.

Most of this mold are definitely plastic. That being said there are some that ae definitely not. at my request @AfterTheFact set one he had on fire that was plastic and the plastic dripped as you would expect. The ones I had found listed in the above story were not plastic. When we tried to burn it, the video showed and entirely different reaction and they did not really burn . When we presented David Spragg from the chip board that info, he did some digging and did say that one of the manufacturers did use this mold for a very short time trying to get into the clay chip market. I will see if I can find that response in some old archives.

I'll take a chance on all the whites please. 273 i believe. and then 2 barrels of the lavender. 314 total.

I burned some of these, including the ones that were very clearly plastic. None dropped at all. Some burned really dirty and smelled like burning plastic. Some others smoldered more and almost smelled good.
