Since the last thread was such a tire fire, I'm gonna try to ask the more direct question: for people who also like shuffling chips in quantities of a barrel or more at a time, what have you found to shuffle best? It seems to me that as the number of chips in the stuffle stack increases, one would want the chips to be lighter in weight and have more of the characteristics that make them easier to shuffle like rounded edges. Some characteristics are innate to a chip, and if leaded THC is the best feeling chip then maybe well-worn leaded THC is the answer?

Feel free to also say that chips aren't meant to be shuffled in such large quantities.

All a matter of preference but I love good broke in CSQ mold CPC chips in 20 plus, also the 05 series "PAULSON" home mold chips (pharaohs, NPS and CDIs) imo some of the best shuffling chips out there... but I am usually the odd one out as I prefer to shuffle RHCs over THCs... fellow Chipper Ben

Broken in (not rounded) THC paulsons. Also, casino worn and polished RHC/House molds seem to shuffle well as they're a little lighter, but slightly slippery.

OK, I'll bite. Chips aren't meant to be shuffled in such large quantities. :ROFLMAO:

I've never even seen someone attempt more than a barrel, although I'm sure I could do it if I really cared to. But even a barrel is something that requires a significant amount of focus, attention, and patience. Shuffling chips is more about a mindless task to keep yourself occupied while playing cards, for most people. Usually 6 to 10 chips at a time. Not 20+

That said, if you have a bet going with someone or something like that, in order to see how many you can do, then I'd be looking for some buttery slightly worn in CPC or ASM chips. The lighter the better for big stacks. I just shuffled 22 Paulson Outpost $20s (buttery smooth, slightly worn) to see if I could do it, but it wasn't easy. Took several attempts. I could do up to 18 pretty easily, almost every time, but 20 got pretty tricky, and 22 definitely required a lot of patience. I gave up on 24. YMMV.

They are really great feeling chips. Better than my shuffle stack of casino used MGM 1's and stack of RHC imo. Never shuffled Pharaoh or NPS or THC though.

CSQ is surprisingly slippery, like on par with lammer mold slippery. I don't know if it's a property of the mold or the lighter weight from unweighted colours. I think the slipperiness helps with shuffling smoothly without being completely broken in, but an interleaved stack can sometimes fall over.

Get a barrel of primary PCA $25s or primary Empress $25s. Both are sufficiently worn, leaded (buttery-smooth), weigh less than most older Paulsons, and won't cost an arm and a leg.

This is subjective imo. The only way to know what the best shuffling chip “for you” is to get at it and try several different molds.

Shuffling a barrel? Yeah... no. Something also that’s subjective. I’d say much less as others have said alluded to. Personally, 12 seems ideal to me.

Well broken-in paulsons with the large inlay are easier, IMO...the large smooth inlay makes the edge of each chip slide better

By large inlay you mean the giant size right? I have some lammer mold chips that shuffle pretty smoothly even without being broken in due to the large, smooth inlay. I do find them to be a bit too slippery and unstable, however.

Those sound like they tick all the boxes honestly, I'll definitely need to sample those.

There seems to be quite the spectrum here, with most people who like to shuffle chips landing somewhere in the 12-16 zone, and I assume it's because shuffling 10 chips is trivial, but it becomes more difficult for every 2 chips that's added. In order to keep shuffling more chips, one needs some combination of honing one's technique and making the equipment (the chips) easier for the job. For me, it's never made sense to simply stop when it got too hard. I completely understand if anyone just wants something mindless to do while playing poker, but this is a forum dedicated to equipment, and if shuffling large amounts of chips puts greater demands on said equipment, why not investigate to at least see if there's anything there? The functions that equipment serves morphs and changes over time, I'm sure the first American clay poker chips were not made to be shuffled, but shuffling has become an almost essential feature of poker chips. Taking a nearby example, paper cards optimized for cardistry have been made (and sold at ridiculous markups) in reaction to a demand, however niche it may be. Are they better than bicycle's? Well at least on one metric. I would love some plastic manufacturer to come out with a poker chip that's optimized for shuffling, because advances in equipment should always be welcome, right? Probably not happening though...

I can top that, as I don't see what the point is in shuffling chips. Hate doing it, get no enjoyment from it whatsoever! Never saw the appeal.

I've played poker since I was 22. I'm 41 now. I've been in casinos and always watched others shuffle and laughed to myself. Nothing cool about it to me. Why? Just wear chips out for the sake of wearing them out? Never understood it.

I like to flip single chips over a bunch of 5 or 6 in my hand at one time. I do that a lot. Not sure what that's called. I call it flipping. Sometimes 1 chip sometimes 2. I can do it with both hands simultaneously. I can even flip 2 or even 3 at one time.

Now who's odd? ;)

Nothing wrong with that and if you mean flipping the chips over your knuckles I believe that is referred to as rolling chips... but I don't know that it has a technical term... I mean you are flipping them! So nothing wrong with that... I agree you are adding to the chip wear by shuffling but I don't think it's really controllable once you have been doing it for years.

Best shuffling Chi is the Par-A-Dice $25. Perfect amount of wear for a buttery smooth shuffle. Too many runners-up to name.
These?

Or these?

Wonder if there is a difference in ease-of-shuffle between similar-condition THC and RHC chips.... not that it would influence my own personal purchase decision.

I don’t think it makes much difference given similar condition

These are the current crop of shuffling stacks; my favorites are the Jack red $5 and Jack black $100. My Lady Luck $5 and Isle $5 are getting nicely broken in. They're growing on me.
Did I mention how good these chips sound?

I shuffle 20 regularly. Slightly worn scrowns for that buttery feel and that buttery sound

Sorry I just watched a battle rap

I didn't think shuffling ceramics was much of a thing.

Why not? I shuffle every kind of chip I play with! Ceramics as well as cheap dice chips if that's what the host is using. Ceramics feel good, but when shuffling 16+ or whatever high number of chips they can be a bit hard since they are often quite a bit more slippery than clay chips. I do prefer paulsons though. Lately I've been shuffling a barrel of PCA sec $25!

Yup, I love shuffling Chipcos. Especially those ones with the linen finish. Though there don’t seem to be a lot of them.
