Traveled up to Tobermory Ontario this weekend for a massive circumnavigation of Cove Island out in Georgian bay but had to make a stop at the Sweeptakes ship wreck to snap this picture :)

few more from the trip...Cove Island was a 28km round trip paddle or about 7 leisurely hours. Amazing lighthouse with not a soul around for miles!

Did two weeks in a canoe in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.

Spent a week on a 3 person backpacking trek in Denali. 11 grizzlies and an ornery moose.

Three treks at Philmont.

Been held at gun point by the NYPD ESU while playing cards, once.

Climbed a 14,000 ft peak at the age of 14.

Was accosted and abducted by the GRU when I was 7. Might’ve been the KGB, but to this day I’m not sure.

Jumped out of a perfectly good airplane exactly 0 times.

Worked for Interpol at an undisclosed location in 1992.

Mild hay fever allergy.

- Volunteered for some extended outdoor adventures in the central highlands of South Vietnam, 1968-70. Managed to hitch a ride in a Phantom!

Wow. /thread. Thank you for your service. I am a huge fan NEWSREP.com (formerly sofrep.com). John “Striker” Myers writes some amazing stories about his time on MACVSOG in Vietnam.

Whatever story led to the ride in the phantom is probably a good one.

Post above aside, some amazing stories and pics in this thread. Most of you are waaaay braver than me. I get most of my thrills commuting to work and bluffing flops.

The only mountain I’ve climbed is Old Rag but I love doing it whenever I can. I rafted the Cheat River once which was a blast. But I told my wife we were going on a river float so she did not realize we were class fiving it.

Me and a timber rattlesnake (zoom in). Noise is very scary until you locate the serpent.

This thread needs a robot, more inspirational pics to tide us over while on house arrest...

Great idea for a thread and grateful that we've still been able to get outdoors here during the lockdown - I'd have gone legit bonkers otherwise.

Landing in Tenzing-Hillary (Lukla), the most dangerous airport in the world. If you are bored watch some videos of landings because it was bonkers especially considering the pilots were using all analog controls flying through complete fog through the Himalayas on these super old Russian (I believe) planes.

Fighting a reef pup unsuccessfully in open water when I have Lionfish on a straight spear...

My heart is in Nepal! Met my wife my first time there back in 2011 (we honeymooned there too!) and had a front row seat for the approach to Lukla... certainly a unique flying experience! Really need to get back there again at some point... time flies.

It was beautiful there and wonderful people too. Just the scale of everything in the Himalayas was awe inspiring. I can't even express it in a way to get others to appreciate it. But yeah, that flight was a one time round trip deal for me and that's it, haha.

Yeah, the scale is incredible. The only place that I've spent time in that comes even close is in Chamonix, France.

I'd fly into Lukla again (it beats overland travel in Nepal any day). Or, maybe I just like adrenaline! lol.

For reference for everyone else, that's a mere 1700ft runway at a +12% slope, ending in a wall. As you can see, the landing angle is also fairly steep. Fun stuff!

Yeah the photos of the runway don't give sense of that incline which our eyes correct for because we want to believe its flat.

Not my video, but the videos of the takeoffs give a better impression of the "excitement"...

Friday nights are for Poker. The rest of the time, you'll usually find me somewhere in the great outdoors (climbing, hiking, cycling, ski-touring, you name it!)

A few snaps from "outdoorsey" cpac54, Past and Present:

As Nepal was a topic, here's a few from my first trip there in 2011:

Such a cool thread, and let’s keep it rolling. I’ll start with our cabin adventure. This has allowed us to enjoy the outdoors on a new scale.. from ATVing, MTBing, skiing and snowshoeing, to lake life.
