I have a thought experiment I'd like to run by this group and it stems from the underlying anxiety I have of felting my first MINT set of Jack Detroit's. Part of me would like to just felt them, use them, occasionally clean pizza off them and just own them forever and not care. And the other part of me is apprehensive. Let's suspend this thought for a second and not turn the thread into a lengthy debate around collecting vs felting and living vicariously vs the anxiety that comes with felting $4k+ sets. But that's kind of where I'm starting with this thread.

QUESTION: If I wanted to put together a mixed label RHC mold cash set of (Frac) + (Dollar) + (Five) just to felt it and abuse it and start throwing paulsons around like they're nothing then what would your picks be for best budget frac, dollar and five? (pls include screen shots) They can be from different sets but what would be your best budget mixed dream team? I'm hoping to add to my collection a slightly felted version of these results and spend as little as possible, maybe move a rack or two from you folks that's taking up space, and get more games in with Paulsons.

I'm also asking cause we have a mixed group of all our sons and I could see felting the JD's with the guys and then tossing the mixed set out to get the younger boys to appreciate some nice quality chips without breaking the bank.

Criteria:
  • Paulson RHC mold
  • frac, dollar, five lineup (to support a $20 to $25 dollar buy-in)
  • As budget as possible while still being mint/home felted. Think Paris 1s, HSI 1s, Terrible's maybe, etc.
  • Current market options (no card room pounces, I'm currently out of cash at the moment)

Hope to get some great ideas. Hope they don't look like poop lol. Repeat entries welcome cause if there's an overwhelming set of picks for one particular chip that will be landing on my buying radar. Remember, I'm pretty new here and still learning what's out there. Thanks for the help!!

Also if you don't have time to submit a lineup just gimee your best dollar chip. or five, or frac etc. that fits this description. I can piece something together from the entries. Teach me ;) I see some dollar chips going for cheap in the classifieds lately.

This is a contradiction. The better the condition, the higher the cost is going to be regardless of what casino it's from.

There are 'budget' fracs? You'd be far better off acquiring something to relabel IMO.

They're always going to be in casino worn condition, but the most economically priced RHC chips I can think of are Lake Elsinore $1s and Garden City $5s. Blue and brown chips would clash but it mostly meets your criteria...

1. Felt the chips you have.
2. Totally get not wanting to. In which case, just scoop up cheap chips everytime you see them. Terrible $1s have been popping up lately. Supes cheap. Aransas $25s - I had to almost literally give them away. Just find cheap $5s and done. Or just grab cheapies as they come and figure out what fits.
3. You’re asking for “as budget as possible” but also hoping for Paulsons that match and look great. Maybe just grab some Tinas in the meantime - way cheaper, customized, and potentially meaningful for handing down.

All meant to be helpful!

My 2 throwaround Paulson sets.

JC $25s used as quarters. <$2/chip across the board. Leaves the door open for value store chips (like JC 1k sec as $10s or ES $20s at face).

Ya, relabeling chips for fracs is allowable and, to your point, prolly the only option.

As for budget, I don't mind paying a hundred a rack or a little more. Here's a few listings right now for dollars. terribles for 175 and HSI for 125. Right now the HSI dollars are my pick for the range I'm thinking. What others are in this range or under a hundred a rack? thoughts? Understand the fives may be more difficult. thanks man.

If you have a $4k+ set and are building a second, cheaper set, idk that $25-50 would be my breaking point in what to pick.

But HSI 1A should be available at $100 a rack, and BOTH of the above $1s thst you have listed should be cheaper than what they’re listed at imo. There’s many and no one needs them.

Under $100 a rack and you’re dreaming for great condition fracs/$5s and pretty much any other denom. Relabel. Or Tina.

Thanks for the feedback. And ya they don't need to look awesome. Just thinking something that doesn't look like poop ya know.
This is the thought process of a degenerate with the goal of justifying buying more chips.

Full disclosure: this post was written by a degenerate.

Understand will need to bracket up for the fives. What would be a good rack of "everyone has them" fives or hard to sell fives and what would the price range be?

$5s is your top denom? Needing one rack?

Mint Terrible $5s right now for $300 and sitting in classifieds. It’s your high value chip, looks great, and you still finish the whole set under $1k.

Again I think just take some time and wait on classifieds to pop up and nab.

Also just to show the type of stuff out there.
I was selling Excellent+ to Mint RHCs.

720 chips for $850, but missing $5s. Your cheap set is out there somewhere.

I agree with all the posters saying to look at the latest chip room sale on Saturday. There are some great "cheaper" RHC sets and mint THC roulette chips that can always be relabeled. You aren't going to get better THC chips for 1-2.50 like he's offering.

I guess I have bigger problems that what to buy. My wallets busted from the jacks and I’ll be missing the diamond jack sale. Maybe I just sit and save up for the next chip room sale. Would love some peach roulette chips but undoubtedly they will sell out and be offered up for 500+ a rack by someone. :/

Give the kids dice chips to knock around then and tell them hands off the JDs.

You could always get a set with lots of wear, like garden city Paulson or horseshoe Cleveland

I know it hard for a new chipper to play their mint set for the first time after spending thousands of $ on it.

Chips are meant to be use and being played around, also mint chip don't really wear and tear that easy unless you are using them 247 like casino do.

However, I do politely mentioned to new comers about the value of the chips before the start of the game as not everyone give a 2 cents about the chips
