After talking about it for a few years, finally got er done with a full WTHC set.

given the conversation here:
https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/wthc-current-values.143026/

I feel like I made out OK. Picked up the attached + separately 2 racks of $1s for $5500 door to door with the breakdown as follows:

1: 200 chips
5: 200 chips
25: 200 chips
100: 100 chips
500: 50 chips
1000: 50 chips
5000: 20 chips

820 chips total at $6.70/per averaged out.

I'm unsure about this spend, but I think it's at least a decent store of value if I change my mind and liquidate out later on down the line.

Happy to accept positive and negative feedback alike, along with thoughts on the breakdown. I was aiming for a set that could work for both 1/2 cash game as well as tournament

Nice pickup!

How are the conditions for the chips? Any pics of the edges for the racks?

You can add on with the deal of the century.. just $30 a chip in the classified. Go searching. You won’t be disappointed.

Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself as I only have the $1s in hand and I could have a box of bricks on the way for the rest. Or delivery could go sideways etc 🤞

But the 1s I do have look pretty sharp and gently handled if they were felted at all

Looks pretty sharp, excellent deal! I think those $1s are probably worth north of $10/chip for resale.

Just out of curiosity because I'm too young to know, what price were these originally sold for in the long long ago?

probably $1-3/chip, i missed that time too, but i know Paulson home sets were in that range.

Congratulations. It's actually a good price. About 10 years ago, I wanted to buy them, and they were priced at $1-2, but I really didn't like the $25 and $500 samples, so that's what stopped me. And to be honest, I don't regret it much.

I actually ended up paying just under $10/chip for the $1s which pushed up my average per chip for the set. Otherwise i'd have been under $6/chip

I found a reddit forum where people are talking about Paulsons being really expensive at $1-$2/chip 13 years ago lol. I wish they would come to these forums now.

Found this in that same thread.

I remember when my buddy bought pharaohs direct from paulson back when I was a broke grad student. thought it was the dumbest thing in the world to drop that kind of money on poker chips and now here we are  :ROFLMAO:

Game-wise, you have a great playable set.
Business-wise you have an asset that will hold it's value.

The rest of the chips have arrived! And happily it wasn't just a box of bricks

So, I do have some questions/concerns. The labels on some of the quarters is irregular (see left vs right). is that to be expected? Feel like I've seen a thread about it before but couldn't find it again.

And then also the 5Ks are a different thickness. It's the point where I thought the seller had given me an extra chip, but it's just that 19 of the 5Ks is right around the same height as a regular barrel. Again, is that to be expected..?

I *think* according to my limited experience that these all feel the same and I'm possibly concerned for no reason. About to break out the scale and check weights as well...

EDIT - just did a weight check and all of them are 9 grams, except some of the 500s weighed in at 8 grams

The $5ks look warped.

The $5ks look warped.
Seems like this is indeed it. I do see that they don't sit flushly together like the others and they don't have that sort of almost magnetic snap together when handling as a stack. I sort of smooshed them to see if a full barrel could cram into a rack and while it cannot, it's now only half a chip or less higher than the other stacks

Anyone have any sense of whether the issue with the 25s' inlay is a common occurence?

I see maybe a little extra clay flashing around inlay.that’s common.

Wonderful !
@ninjajim4 As I am also interested in expanding my small WTHC set, did you buy it through this forum, eBay or elsewhere?
I made two different purchases through eBay. One was a brand-new, zero feedback overseas seller which I'm sure dissuaded many and I rolled the dice on it which worked out. The other one, I was able to connect off eBay and avoid the fees and therefore was able to secure a relatively more reasonable price
