Worth picking up for .10 each? (1 Viewer)

Milling and labeling these seem a bit expensive imo. Worth picking them up for 10c each, but might not be worth the extra cost of milling and labeling imo considering their worn condition.. I dunno. Would a $2/4 limit cash set be of use to you? If so these are pretty decent as is with the $1 stamp.
Good point. Although a DIY milling rig is less than $100 and relabeling using Sticker Mule can be done for about 20 cents. So there are other less expensive options other than paying others for services and buying higher end Gear labels.

@BDub What denomination do you want on these? If used for a limit set, do they even need a denomination? A good cleaning might take off most of the foil. Then just add another rack or two of a different color for value chips and you're good to go.

I'm leaning towards keeping it simple... cleaning, sorting (for quality), and probably over stamping one side. Leave the $1.00.

Exactly. Perfect as is. Otherwise they’re a money pit.

Do you know what's the story behind them?
I asked for a backstory, but he didn't know about the provenance. They were from an estate sale long ago.

The box they are in is quite gross and looks to have black mold in it. These will need some serious cleaning.

Interesting how some look very good,

And some have worn down to almost the outer ring:

Either way, get ‘em for .10 each.
I found out why this is! It's two different molds! More pictures incoming.

Same "mold" different "hotstamps."

It is possible that the denomination is on one side and the name is on the other... that is quite common.

Personally, I'd clean them up in a manner that will impart the least damage and then use them as-is. Perfect for a limit set... even if you use them as a different denomination than what is printed on them.

If these are from an actual casino/card room/illegal card room... that is even cooler (read better deal).

I am totally good with using them for the current $1 denom. I'm trying to find information about them but I have nothing yet. It would be rad if they were from an actual or underground casino/card room!

It appears to me there are actually two molds. One has a slightly larger B, and the ring is right next to the edge (more prone to chipping from what I'm seeing in the pictures I've been sent). It's just like the difference between RHC and TCH. I have that correct, right?

No info on why or where the different versions are from, but here's some evidence that there are in fact two different B-molds. This picture is taken from Eisenstadts mold website.

It looks like Ernie is still around and lives local to me. I'll have to see if he's still collecting, and if he has any more info on these.

Joining this forum has been a slippery slope.

You think you're picking up a set of chips for cheap and it's really just a gateway chip.

Now that you have this historical information, and you want to use them as $1s anyway, I think you should just clean them up carefully and retain both hotstamps. Maybe one day you will even find some of the $5s and $25s.
I agree. Now I just need to land the other two denoms for the same deal.
